Unfortunately and fortunately changing professions into a body centric environment has been a challenge for me.

Unfortunately because I struggle to look in the mirror most days and now I am surrounded by them 24/7

Fortunately, it is helping me to come to fruition with deep rooted things.

Like all things, there are ups and downs, just because we have the intelligence to know that life ebbs and flows doesn’t make it easier to ACCEPT them.

ACCEPT is a word that gets thrown around a lot, but what does it look like? What does it feel like?

This is something I have been working on for years with myself and in therapy.

As the last quarter of the year begins it is a time to shed, relinquish, and cleanse.

My body has changed.
My mind is ALWAYS changing.
My priorities are shifting.

Most people who know me, know that I’m a little bit CLUMSY in my day to day life.

(I type this as I’m wearing a moon boot for a double sprained ankle with bone fragmentation and torn ligaments 🤦🏼‍♀️)

While was taking this photo the thought was please don’t fall, over and over….! (I think he was saying it out loud too)

With a new injury comes the FORCED slowing down and the VERY LOUD reminder that the practice of yoga is not just on the mat, but off.

Shifting perspective and arriving to the new challenge of practicing and teaching with an injury. Noticing, what the world is trying to teach me.

Freedom
This weeks classes have been focused around the theme of FREEDOM.

Freeing your body of physical pain
Freeing your mind of its woes
Freeing yourself from your own guilt and expectations you put on yourself

As I have shown up to my own mat and to the seat of the teacher, I have been asking students and myself to join the intention of freedom. Gifting yourself the hour that you showed up to your practice to focus on the breath and FREE yourself of your daily thought process.

A difficult task, but you have already shown up to practice, might as well use that gift of time to take a break from your constant thinking mind.

Using the breath with your physical practice can alleviate physical pain but also cultivate mental clarity.

How can you free yourself today? (Even if it is for a minute!)

Date YOURSELF

Who else out there is a high empath?
Who else forgets to refill their own energy tank?
Who else taps into old behaviors when their tank is on low?

GUILTY!
Something I have realized is that I have to be running on empty in order to slow down. My 2021 mantra is to REST WELL but what does that mean and what does that look like?

One way I have started to bring that mantra to fruition is to take myself out on a date. Each week I look at my calendar and find an hour to take myself out. Usually I have my journal some pens and NO plan and NO phone!

Have you ever just opened a book and started writing? Things pour out of me that I didn’t even realize were ruminating in my thoughts. Taking that hour to be CURIOUS about myself. I have found new ways to show up for myself and for those around me.
