[Skin Library] If I have postpartum hair loss or telogen effluvium, will my hair regrow
"If I have postpartum hair loss or telogen effluvium (stress induced hair loss), will my hair regrow?" It is one of the most common questions that dermatologists are asked by their patients.
In order to answer the million dollar question, let’s try to learn about the hair growth cycle. Under normal circumstances, when hair follicles go from the resting phase (telogen) to the growth phase (anagen), baby hair is ‘pushing’ the old hair out from the follicle, and that’s how hair is shed. Usually around 100 hairs would fall out daily from this hair cycle.
In stress-induced or postpartum hair loss, a significant number of hairs prematurely enter into the resting phase (telogen), resulting in more than usual hair loss after 3 months where the hair follicles becomes active again. Therefore, the hair thinning is definitely not permanent and your hair will be full again!
