No one likes to consider themselves evil; most people view themselves as good. However, there is no definitive measure to determine one's level of goodness.
This is why when a rich young man addressed the Lord Jesus as a Good Master, Jesus corrected him by saying, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God." (Mark 10:18).
If the Lord Jesus did not consider Himself good, who are we to think we are?
Thinking of oneself as good can lead to certain risks, including:
🚨Pride: Comparing oneself to others and looking down on those who make mistakes.
🚨 Compensating for wrongs: Believing that one's good deeds outweigh any mistakes made.
🚨 Complacency: Lack of motivation for self-improvement.
🚨 Overconfidence: When it comes to eternity, one might believe they are saved and will spend it with God, but in reality, they may be lost.
🚨 Causing Strain in Relationships: Excessive confidence can come across as arrogance, leading to tensions with others.
By acknowledging our shortcomings and realizing our imperfections, we continuously strive to improvement, which leads us to seek God's mercy and guidance.
“As it is written:"There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one." Romans 3:10-12
