Hi, I am delighted to introduce a new breathing technique called Cognitive Music Breathing. In the clinical experiment, the 48 participants with General Anxiety Disorder showed significan stress relief in comparison to deep breathing technique. These participants required about 30 seconds for obvious signs of relief. There are 3 main steps:
1. Exhale
2. Think of a large Music Interval (eg. Do So) while exhaling
3. Mentally name 2 objects in the surrounding (while exhaling)
Then breathe in naturally

I am Dr. Tsang (Ed.D), a psychotherapist and registered counsellor, and I composed and recorded a 9 minute-music- journey that aims to take you from beta to delta wave (awake to deep sleep). Each piece contains its set of tempo, bird singing patterns, saxophone sounds, and melodies. Please close your eyes and alow the music to take you to a unique relaxation universe.

這首9分鐘的安眠曲由曾博士作曲及色士風演奏,走大自然迷幻風格,帶你從顯意識到無意識腦波依頻率,請閉上眼,享受為你制造的音頻宇宙。

Favorite Mindfulness Analogy of the Day

Stress may never leave us and we should not 'hope' it does. However, through practicing mindfulness, our nervous system and physical responses would experience tranquilization that help us deal with or desensitize stress stimulation. At the end, it seems that our stress management capacity has increased.

Possible reversibility of dementia?

Lately I have witnessed an elderly client who experienced stroke on her left side of body. In the beginning of the post stroke phase, she revealed symptoms of early dementia. We had a plan for her in the purpose of enhancing her daily confidence.

She spent her past 3 weeks doing daily walking with comfortable shoes from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. After 3 weeks, amazingly we see signs of dementia reversibility. Her memory and attention level improved with accompaniment of stroke recovery. Although this is a mere case study, this might shed light from pre-assumption of irreversibility of dementia.

The term dementia refers to conditions that affect remembering, thinking, and behavior. Most cases of dementia are not reversible, but there are treatment options that may slow progression. Learn more here.

Oh! I have an OCPD husband! (couple therapy)

Many people understand Obsessive Compulsive Persosonality Disorder (OCPD) as stubbornness or perfectionism. Indeed, OCPD is a spurt of biological responses on the surrounding environment. Most importantly, persuasion is not a suggested initiated action to OCPD. This takes immense desensitization before thoughts approach could involve. Therefore, a couple or family must commit in order to alleviate OCPD symptoms.

Eyes is a channel that explicitly reveals nervous system conditions. Understanding how to analyze your eyes will not only allow you to understand your mood conditions but also get prepared before it gets worse.

Stop Bombarding your Brain

Many people don't notice themselves in a constant 'thinking' mode. While some people claim themselves 'not thinking', their brain is indeed in an anautomatic analysis of the environment. Research suggests that human brain continuously makes prediction and interpretation. For example, when we hear a strange sound, we would automatically retrieve the sound file that matches. When you hear 'fam', your brain would generate 'family', or 'ap' to 'apple', 'apps' or 'apply, etc'.

What I am trying to say is this prediction function definitely exhausts our brain. If we cannot 'consciously' slow down this process, we will easily commit in over interpretation trend that makes us anxious and restless.

This is why mindfulness would be essential in our daily life. We all should learn to take control of our brain so that our brain can function optimally and provide us with best performance at work and home.

Music Brings Us Together Once Again (Dementia)

I know how devastating it feels to face the one you love every day with whom no longer remembers or recognizes you. This condition is called dementia or commonly recognized as Alzheimer's disease.

Working and recent memories are greatly affected by dementia. However, research suggests that memory of feeling is still intact, and it can be recalled by music. The hypothesis is that music contains strong theme that ties to particular events. In my clinical experience, music therapy can even improve elderly alertness and attention span.

Misophonia - More than Just Chewing Sound

Misophonia is defined as aversion to certain sound, and it occurs commonly on the sound of chewing and swallowing. These particular sounds arouse mild to extreme activation, causing the feeling of discomfort and suffering. Latest research indicates that misophonia can also occur on certain syllables and human voices. These sounds trigger increase heartbeat and choking feeling. In serious cases, people with misophonia also experience symptoms that resemble panic attack.

It is treatable only for the ones who are courageous to face their symptoms. Given this as a nervous system maldevelopment, treatment would often take years.
