Context and Contributions
- Background: Tom Bowen was a humble man known for developing an innovative manual therapy for the treatment of musculoskeletal and neurological disorders, starting in the late 1950s.
- Impact: During his 26 years of service, he performed around 250 treatments per week and had a profound impact on many lives, especially children with disabilities, whom he treated free of charge.
- Legacy: His techniques have been passed down through his students and are now taught worldwide, ensuring his legacy continues.

Sculpture Description
The bronze sculpture depicts two hands holding a sphere:
- Symbolism:
- The hands represent Tom Bowen's healing ability.
- The sphere symbolizes the resting head of the client and the global acceptance of his techniques.
The statue is located on Pakington Street, West Park, Geelong West, and was dedicated on October 27, 2002.

Tom Bowen's legacy lives on not only through his practice but through the hundreds of thousands he helped during his lifetime and the continuing education of his techniques.

So proud that Australia has gifted Bowen Therapy to the world. Thank you Tom Bowen, Ossie and Elaine for your vision, dedication and healing legacy ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ

Australia has given the world many things, and one of them is Bowen Therapy.

From the hands of Tom Bowen in Geelong, to the dedication and vision of Ossie and Elaine Rentsch, Bowen Therapy grew from a uniquely Australian practice into a modality now respected and practised worldwide.

Today, on Australia Day, we acknowledge three remarkable Australians whose commitment, integrity and generosity of knowledge have shaped the Bowen Therapy profession and touched countless lives across the globe.

This is a legacy built not on hype, but on care, curiosity, and deep respect for the bodyโ€™s innate wisdom.

Thank you to the Bowen Association of Australia for featuring my work and this new chapter in my Bowen journey. Iโ€™m honoured to be part of the 2026 Conference in Geelong.

Bowen Therapy is often felt before it is explained โ€“ meridians and acupoints may help bridge that gap.

Joining us from Hong Kong, Bowen Therapist Alice Lai Ming Chan brings a unique Eastโ€“West perspective to the 2026 Bowen Conference.

Alice is passionate about promoting Bowen Therapy globally and is the author of several books exploring the connection between Bowen moves, anatomy, and acupoints. Her pioneering work mapping Bowen moves to acupoints opened new pathways for understanding energy flow in the body.

At the conference, Alice will unveil her fourth book, Bowen Therapy: With a Lens on Meridians & Acupoints, and introduce an exciting new project gathering insights from experienced Bowen therapists worldwide.

Through the gentle touch of Bowen therapy, we tap into the Autonomic Nervous System, promoting healing as the brain sends signals to and from the body for complete balance.

The fascial system is rich in sensory receptors and responds to a wide range of input โ€” including gentle, specific cues.

Bowen Therapy is designed around this understanding, using precise moves and intentional pauses rather than relying on sustained or forceful pressure.

What looks minimal on the surface is actually a considered, anatomy-informed approach.

What can Bowen learn from Osteopathy โ€” and vice versa? ๐Ÿค”

Join international educator and author, John Wilks, as he traces the shared roots of these two healing traditions.

Discover Tom Bowenโ€™s fascination with osteopathy and how fascia became the common language of both practices.

John will highlight the palpation skills, history, and philosophy that can guide Bowen into its next era.

A rare opportunity to learn from one of Bowenโ€™s great teachers!
