【What is the difference between the viscera of traditional Chinese medicine and that of Western medicine?】
In traditional Chinese medicine, the five internal organs refer to the heart, liver, spleen, lung and kidney, the six internal organs refer to the gallbladder, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, bladder and Sanjiao , and in western medicine, the five internal organs refer to the
organs in the anatomical sense, such as heart, liver, spleen, lung and kidney. Therefore, the viscera are different in Chinese and Western medicine😝. Although the appellation of the two is the same, the "viscera" in traditional Chinese medicine is a concept biased
towards function and abstraction😲. It emphasizes not the anatomical structure, but the function of organs, and there is a parallel relationship between all organs😔.
👉For example, the "spleen" of traditional Chinese medicine and that of Western medicine are completely different in shape, location and function. The "spleen" of Western medicine is an anatomical concept, which is responsible for the hematopoietic function of the human body , blood filtering function and immune function. The "spleen" of traditional Chinese medicine is responsible for digestion, absorption and transportation of food and water.
👉Another example, in western medicine, the heart is an organ that non - stop beating. Every heartbeat circulates blood through the organs of the body. But in Chinese medicine, the heart is responsible for the mind as well as the blood. We often heart that people say: “from the bottom of your heart” when expressing their emotions. It seems that "heart controlling mental activities" do not distinguish between Eastern and Western cultures.
