Last night, the three buildings at Nos. 9-27 Tung On Street and No. 3 Pitt Street, Yau Ma Tei, was suddenly designated as "Lockdown Area" with immediate effect. Sample collection pop-up stations were set up to require all residents in the area for compulsory covid-19 testing.
The Government announced the lifting of the lockdown at 6am this morning (27th Jan), where 330 residents were tested with one confirmed case.
Although the mandatory test confirmed only a very small sample of the population (330:1), by applying this set of data to Hong Kong’s total population of 7.5 million, we can extrapolate that around 22,000 people could be infected in the future, if this trend continues.
More Noticeably, Hong Kong does not have any substantial supply of covid-19 vaccine nor a set timetable for public vaccination.
Therefore everyone should take precaution and remember: "Prevention first, is better than a cure later"
