【椎間盤疾病的治療關鍵】

🐱Miu Miu是一隻6歲的臘腸犬，因突發後肢癱瘓症狀被帶至本院急診。

🩺Miu Miu於VetiVa就診後，由我們的外科專家Dr. Kenny Carroll進行評估。她的雙後肢癱瘓，被診斷出疑似IVDD（椎間盤突出）。透過電腦斷層掃描，發現其T12-T13節段有椎間盤突出的情況。Dr. Kenny隨即為Miu Miu手術移除椎間盤突出物，以減輕其對脊髓的擠壓。

🧡術後Miu Miu恢復良好，並重新恢復行走能力。

⚠️若未經治療，IVDD可能導致永久性神經功能障礙與癱瘓。即時診斷與手術治療是成功康復的關鍵。

【From Paralysis to Recovery:The IVDD Journey】

🐱Miu Miu is a 6 years old beautiful young Dachshund, which presented to our emergency department for acute signs of hindlimb paralysis.

🩺Upon presentation at VetiVa, Miu Miu was evaluated by our surgical specialist, Dr. Kenny Carroll. She was paralyzed in both back legs and diagnosed with suspected IVDD.
A CT scan was performed, and this identified a large disc herniation at the level of T12-T13.
An emergency hemilaminectomy surgery was performed by Dr. Kenny to decompress the herniated disc material on Miu Miu’s spinal cord.

🧡Miu Miu recovered well from surgery, and she has now regained the ability to walk again.

⚠️If left untreated, IVDD can lead to permanent neurological dysfunction and paralysis. Timely diagnosis and surgical treatment are the key to a successful outcome.

🤕什麼是椎間盤疾病？

🐶狗狗在一生中可能罹患各種神經系統疾病。從外科角度來看，我們最常見的神經疾病是椎間盤疾病（IVDD）。

👉🏻IVDD 是貓狗常見的脊椎疾病，椎骨之間的椎間盤會退化、膨出或破裂，壓迫脊髓，造成疼痛、無力、步伐不穩，甚至癱瘓。
🐕某些品種（特別是臘腸犬、法國鬥牛犬）因遺傳的傾向，較容易發生此類退化，並有可能在不同年齡階段出現不同程度的神經功能障礙。

⚠️多數情況下，IVDD 屬於外科急症。及時診斷與隨後手術，往往是康復與永久癱瘓之間的關鍵差別。

🤕What’s Intervertebral Disc Disease?

🐶Dogs can develop a range of neurological diseases throughout their lifetime. The most common neurological disease that we see from a surgical standpoint is intervertebral disc disease (IVDD).

👉🏻IVDD is a spinal condition in dogs and cats where the discs between the vertebrae degenerate, bulge, or rupture, compressing the spinal cord and causing pain, weakness, incoordination, and sometimes paralysis.
🐕Certain dog breeds, especially Dachshunds and French Bulldogs, are genetically predisposed to this degeneration, which can lead to varying degrees of neurological dysfunction throughout their lifetime.

⚠️In most cases, IVDD is a surgical emergency. Timely diagnosis and subsequent surgical decompression can be the difference between recovery and permanent paralysis.

Here’s why twice-yearly veterinary dental check-ups are so important:
