【When a Cat Stops Peeing...How SUB Surgery Rescue Your Pet】

🐱Pe Pe, an 12-year-old domestic shorthair cat, was referred to VetiVa for vomiting, decreased appetite, and difficulty urinating. Our internal medicine specialist, Dr. Joshua Steinhaus, took on this challenging case.

🩺 After a thorough examination, Dr. Joshua Steinhaus discovered that Pe Pe’s right ureter was completely blocked, leading to severe hydronephrosis（A build-up of urine in the kidney, causing it to swell） and kidney failure. Facing this critical situation, Dr. Joshua decided to perform a Subcutaneous Ureteral Bypass (SUB) surgery for Pe Pe.

💊With Dr. Joshua‘s precise technique, the SUB device was successfully implanted. This sophisticated system consists of two catheters: one placed in the kidney and the other in the bladder, connected via a subcutaneous port—functioning like an artificial ureter that allows urine to bypass the blockage and flow from the kidney to the bladder. Additionally, Dr. Joshua placed an esophagostomy tube to ensure Pe Pe receives adequate nutrition and medication during recovery.
