Occult Workshop Series No.1: The Many Faces of Scrying

Scrying is widely practiced by magicians, witches, sorcerers and cunning ones. Considered a basis for all magical practices, this is used to diagnose what, when，why or whether anything is happening to a person, an object or a place, before proceeding to the next step to finding out a solution. This is a common method used by folk magic practitioners.

Historical manuscripts from the Elizabethan period like MS36674 by Humphrey Gilbert and John Davis, the angelic conversations by John Dee and Edward Kelley, as well as MSS The Crystal by Frederick Hockley are examples of scrying with other spiritual entities.

To scry is to “see” - with all your available senses. In this workshop you will learn about different methods of scrying employed in various practices, from trolldom to Wiccan to Ceremonial Magic. Also included are the history of practice, tools to use, practicality in modern days and ethics. This is an introductory course with practice sessions to understand how it works.

The class will be co-taught by me and Paul from Raven White Botanica. Students will have the rare opportunity to ask questions and have perspectives shared by two experienced professional workers in the field. We will guide you through all the steps and offer support during and after the process.

This will take place in a private office in Sham Shui Po, address will be sent once reservation is confirmed. Space is limited so please make sure to sign up via the link in my bio to ensure your spot.

靈視是魔法師、女巫、術士和智者常用的法術，所有魔法的基礎，通常用作判斷。到底一個人、一件物件或者一個空間是怎樣的狀態，有沒有什麼發生了，什至乎是為何發生；之後才到下一個步驟去找出解方，是民間魔法的一般用途。

而在眾多歷史文本當中，有不少是與靈體對話的記錄，譬如英國伊莉沙伯時期的 Humphrey Gilbert和 John Davis的手稿MS36674，John Dee和 Edward Kelley與天使的對話，Frederick Hockley 的手稿MSS The Crystal 等，都是使用靈視去溝通。

靈視即「觀」，是以所有的感觀去覺知。

在這個單元工作坊中，你會學習到不同的魔法系統中使用靈視的方法：由北歐巫術、英國威卡以至古典魔法，內容包括：歷史儀軌、工具、當代的運用和技巧等都會講述。這是一個著重於讓學員有初步理解和得到練習機會的入門課程。

是次將會由我和Raven White Botanica 的Paul 共同授課，課程中我們會輸流講解，帶領和支援整個學習過程。學員們會獲得向兩位擁有豐富經驗的職業巫師發問的寶貴機會，若希望往魔法的道路繼續學習，課程過後也會有後續支持。

Revisiting the Lover’s Rock

On the sixth day of the lunar new year, I returned to the Lover’s Rock to thank the spirit couple.

Last year when I created The Love Charm, it was my first time meeting them. Although they were of a famous local folktale for a pretty long time, I have never attempted to know them. People typically come pray for love and relationship matters. Returning this time feels like visiting friends.

According to the family tending the shrine, it is the best day to visit on the 6th day and then the 16th and 26th day to complete the ritual. The best time to visit is before noon, and the first incense offered past midnight is considered to bring the most blessings.

The rock is their chair and back rest (pic 1 - 3), offerings are being burnt here. Pic 4 is the red cloth where people pray for good health and good grades in exams.

重遊姻緣石

今年新年初六回到了灣仔的姻緣石還神，以感謝他們的幫助。

由於製作愛情護符的關係，去年是我首次到這裡接觸石公婆。雖然他們是很有名的本地傳說，所有祈求姻緣的人都會來這裡，但以往並未有太大興趣去認識他們。這次來到感覺像是去探訪朋友。

根據照料這個地方的家族所說的，每個月的第六日是來拜神的吉日，然後是十六和廿六。最好是中午十二點前完成拜祭，而凌晨十二點後上香則算是頭炷香，能獲得更好的保佑。

圖一至三是石公婆的坐位及椅背，圖四是祈求身體健康和學業功名的紅布條。

Eating sweet dumplings (or glutinous rice balls) on the 15th day (full moon) of the first lunar month is a tradition in Hong Kong. Because of the round shape, they symbolize union, togetherness and completeness.

Considered the last day of the lunar new year, this day is also called the Lantern Festival, which people typically go out at night with paper lanterns lit up and solve riddles written on them.

Some would call this the Chinese Valentine’s Day, since there were very few occasions females are allowed to go outside in the olden days, this is a rare chance to meet and interact with potential suitors.

So go have some rice balls with the ones you treasure today✨

元宵節吃湯圓是香港的傳統，圓形的丸子代表著團圓和圓滿的意思，在農曆年第十五日（第一個滿月）夜晚發生。

這天也是新年的最後一天，另外的傳統是帶上燈籠點燈和猜燈謎。

另一說法是元宵節是東方的情人節，是情侶出遊玩樂的日子。基於禮節問題，以前的女子並不常有機會出門，而這天是一年中比較罕有地能夠外出與追求者會面相處的節慶。

Three mysterious norns sit under the Yggdrasil, spinning their red threads of fate, carving and cutting, shaping the patterns of our lives. The attraction to the sacred union, the longing to meet our fated one, sets us on the path to meet the jotuns guarding the hidden treasures; from the horn we drink the poet’s mead, to celebrate the reunion with our greatest love.

Just like the story of Svipdagr and Menglöð in the Nordic poem Fjölsvinnsmál from the Poetic Edda:

Þrár hafðar er ek hefi til þíns gamans,

Alike we yearned; I longed for thee,

As an extension to the topic we discussed at the monthly occult meetup, I am participating in Art Furnace’s Spring Romantic Station on 28 Feb and 1 Mar, from 1pm to 7pm at Foo Tak Building .

Our hostess Pang Jing asked us to select a few keywords to represent this element. It comes immediately to me as an aspect of the Norse goddess Freya, who is a representation of love and fertility, of war and pride. Keywords that are important to me in the sense of romance are - rose, mysterious, power, attraction, fate and longing.

You are welcome to come learn about how these aspects and more may manifest in ourselves and in others - to find out what we are longing for, how to cure a longing, to cut cords, to rebuild or to heal.
