When Things Go Wrong, Do You Turn Against Yourself? ✨ Sometimes the hardest part of a tough moment is how we treat ourselves afterward. 當事情出錯時,你會責怪自己嗎?✨有時候,最難熬的不是事情本身,而是我們事後對自己的態度。

Last Saturday, I completed a Power of Awareness course with a group of parents. One participant, Jennifer Yau, shared something powerful:

“Not blaming myself – this has been life-changing for me.”

🌿 Mindfulness has taught me about the ‘second arrow.’

We all experience pain in life – that’s the first arrow. For example, when something goes wrong at work. But often, we shoot ourselves with a second arrow by criticising or blaming ourselves.

The first arrow hurts, but the second arrow is the extra suffering we create in our minds.

🪷 In mindfulness practice, we learn to meet our experiences with kindness—toward ourselves and others—rather than judgment or blame.

✨ Just last weekend, my wifi was malfunctioning. Despite contacting technicians to investigate and repair it, no one was available to visit. As a result, I missed a deadline.

I noticed my mind saying:

“That’s so unprofessional of me to miss a deadline!”

But then I paused and reminded myself:

“I did everything I could to fix it. This was out of my control.”

That simple act of self-kindness released the tightness in my chest. I went on with the day feeling lighter, calmer, and able to focus on what I could do next—instead of getting stuck in blame.

💭 Reflection: Can you think of a recent time when something went wrong and you criticised yourself? What would it be like to respond with kindness instead?

🌸 Learning to pause and choose kindness doesn’t make us weak – it frees us to move forward with clarity and courage.

但我停下來,提醒自己:

「我已經盡力去修復了。這件事超出了我的掌控。」

這個簡單的自我善待行動,釋放了我胸口的緊繃感。 那一天,我感覺更輕鬆、更平靜,也能專注於接下來能做的事,而不是困在自責裡。

In a fast-paced world where we juggle deadlines, responsibilities, and endless demands, true self-care often takes a backseat. Yet, deep relaxation isn’t just about external pampering—it’s about reconnecting with yourself, tuning into your body, and allowing space for release.

One of last night’s workshop participants, Candy Chau, shared her powerful experience after the 15-minute guided meditation, part of my Mindfulness for Success 101 workshop designed for busy professionals and business owners new to mindfulness. 在GerlieMa 引導下,整個Meditation的過程是如此享受。

我覺得真的放下了自己,完全活在當下。過程中我察覺整個身體逐漸放鬆,我甚至留意到我的手——原來之前坐著的時候,我是處於一個很緊張狀態,但在練習過程中,我的手卻慢慢放開,連手指也放鬆了⋯ 嘩,整個人好像進入一個完全release 狀態,很舒服,很享受。

我感到整個心靈很平靜,環境也很寧靜。當我專注於身體每一個部位時,我感覺好像在愛自己,疼愛著每一部位的我。那一刻,我感受到自己是那麼在乎它們,關心它們的需要和感受。這種細心式的對身體每部位的着重和關顧,是我在平日生活中是沒有的。平常可能只是洗臉、敷面膜、塗面霜,都是表面的呵護,但這次很不同,我好像跟身體每一個部位都有了連結,真的在乎它們的感受。

這次的體驗真的很好,好像放下了很多忙碌又瑣碎的事,心靈好像被洗滌了一樣, 讓我內在有一份平靜與清新的感覺,是從內而外滋養著自己, 重新對焦care and love的對象是自己。"

She has studied with some of the world’s most renowned authors and masters in the areas of psychology, ancient wisdom traditions, and maximizing human potential, including Eckhart Tolle, Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, Jack Canfield and many more, and has meditated daily for more than two decades.

For over 15 years, she held senior positions at a US Fortune 500 Company in Hong Kong and co-operated a trading company, specializing in operations, customer service, and training. In 2013, she left her high-profile career to pursue her passion to empower and motivate people to become their best version so that they can live a more joyful, peaceful and purposeful life.

GerlieMa is living her dream, helping people to embrace their own inner power and uniqueness, to face their life challenges and live their passions with confidence, as well to cultivate mindfulness, love and compassion for oneself and others.
