What an unforgettable year 2020 is. Few things to remember, is that we are all in this together in this journey of time.

As we look to the new year, hold on to what is good, let go of what is bad - just that simple. Time flies, but we are always the pilot.

Here’s some mantras to bring to the new year, put things in perspective and to redirect your energy effectively when needed.

MANTRA 1: I am not alone.
Remember is that you don’t have to face hard times by yourself. Don’t be scared to let someone special in when you’re in a dark place.

MANTRA 2: I am here now.
You are not your bad days. You are not your mistakes. You are not your past. You are now your downs. You are not your past. Be here now, and breathe.

MANTRA 3: This is the beginning.

Every situation has to come to an end eventually. The world is bigger thanour momentary view of it. Now, there’s plenty of room for a new idea, a new step, new beginning, new choice.

MANTRA 4: In my response is my power.

The goal isn’t to get rid of all your negative thoughts, feelings, or life situations from this past year. That’s impossible. The goal is to change your response to them.

MANTRA 5: I have enough to move forward.

Seriously, look around, and be thankful right now. Even in times of uncertainty—even when life seems far from perfect—it’s always important to keep the simple things in perspective. You are alive. You have access to water. You have air to breathe.

Be thankful for all the things you do have.

Breathe it in. And then do your best to take the next smallest step forward into 2021.

One of the phenomena of our fascinating existence is the fact that we can move ourselves, mostly unconsciously, through space.

Our body is a compromise between mobility and stability. We are not as stable as a house; however, nor are we as mobile as the wind.

In order to create integrity and mobility in the body, our “creator” came up with something rather special.

From
A few words from the Bhagavad-Gita: "Your privilege extends only to the act, never at any time to the outcome. Do not be overly motivated by outcomes, nor should you commit yourself to inaction. Stand in yoga, perform the acts. Give away the avidity. Be reasonable about success and failure. Yoga is equanimity (in the storm).” 2.47-2.61 (translation by Douglas Brooks)

The gift of Yoga is sensitivity to our bodies, and ultimately, sensitivity to life. When we tap into that, we can become of service to ourselves first, others second. And, have more to give.

May this Yoga journey we’re on draw a wider circle of it’s meaning. It is life, movement, grief, joy, love and suffering and being with it all. We can take steps to inner growth and calm– together.

Online education and training coming to you this Fall 2020 ~ stay tuned 💫

Yoga is more a state than a methodology. A state where there is nothing missing. You don't feel like you have to grab this or grab that in order to be complete or full. From wringing out the body and the mind, from sitting in meditation, from studying scripture, from selfless service.

We all know how important alignment is. We know that poor alignment disrupts our body’s energy systems and, in so doing, compromises our overall health. We also know that the way our body aligns itself is a direct reflection of how we feel about our self and the world. When we are “out of alignment” or have poor alignment, our self-esteem and our world- view reflect this distortion.

Clearly alignment should not be an afterthought. Nor should it be considered a facet of advanced asana practice only. Alignment is essential at all levels of practice and all areas of life. Healthy alignment ensures that asana and all our movements in life are performed safely and expertly.

As far as yoga is concerned, yoga postures need not be overly advanced to be beneficial. The most basic postures are generally the most therapeutic, since they are the easiest ones in which to establish precise alignment.  - Steven Weiss

Yoga slows everything down and gives you the opportunity to peel away the layers of the onion. It’s really important to learn to feel through your practice—to open up your body and feel how certain poses affect your emotions. Every time you feel negativity, come back to the mat to take refuge and connect your mind body soul. - Briohnny Smyth

Celebrate this 18th August new moon. Resembling a symbol of spiritual renewal and in vivacious Leo, your new beginning will focus on your divine light.

This new moon is actually an opportunity for inner growth.

Even though feelings of self-doubt and self-consciousness may arise, we should view this lunar phase as a chance to improve, not beat ourselves up. Don’t ruminate over whether you said the wrong thing or impressed the right people. Instead, use the evening of the 18th to decide how you want to be perceived in the future – then craft a plan for how you can work to become that person you hope others see.

When faced with our so-called shortcomings, it’s naturally tempting to get stuck in a rut of negative self-talk. But, no matter what it dredges up within us, the new moon is ultimately about the future. Turn your thoughts toward how you hope to grow — and how your reputation will evolve in kind. By letting yourself sit with an uncomfortable truth about yourself, you could very well discover a new path forward.

While studying yoga in general, and yoga philosophy in particular, it is very important to give yourself license to entertain different ideas. There is no obligation at all that you must believe or buy into the ideas presented in a text. The intention of the original philosophers was quite the contrary; it was that you would learn to think for yourself so you could experience reality as it is.

Backbends are not poses meant for expressionism. Backbends are meant to understand the back parts of our bodies. The front body can be seen with the eyes, but the back body can only be felt. That's why I say these are the most advanced postures, where the mind begins to look at the back. - B.K.S Iyengar
