Why is this HUGE? This cognitive skill is a key prerequisite for AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication)!

What this means: She understands that different representations can mean the same thing - the foundation skill needed for using pictures/symbols to communicate!

For parents of nonverbal children: This is your reminder that "nonverbal" doesn't mean "non-communicative." When we identify these readiness skills and provide the right tools - whether AAC devices, sign language, or picture exchange - amazing things become possible.

Don't accept limitations - look for potential! Every child has communication inside them waiting to come out with the right support and tools.
