【Precision Medicine: New Trends in Prostate Cancer Treatment】
Prostate cancer ranks as the third most common cancer among men in Hong Kong, with a growing trend among younger patients. As clinical cases become increasingly complex, treatment has entered the era of Precision Medicine.

In an interview with HK01, our Consultant in Urology Dr. Ma Wai Kit and Specialist in Clinical Oncology Dr. So Tsz Him noted that treatment strategies are becoming more diversified:
• Early and Intermediate Stages: Minimally invasive techniques such as Irreversible Electroporation (IRE) or robot-assisted surgery aim to precisely treat prostate cancer while minimizing impact on surrounding tissues.

【Hong Kong Adventist Hospital - Stubbs Road Health Seminar Series: New Trends in Prostate Cancer Treatment】
Prostate issues are very common in Hong Kong. There were 3,031 new cases in 2023. In 2024, 518 men died from prostate cancer, accounting for 6.0% of total male cancer deaths, making it the third most common cancer among men.

Our hospital will host a health seminar on 16 March, 2026 (Monday) at the Hong Kong Central Library. We are honored to invite Dr. Wong Ming Ho, Edmond, Specialist in Urology, as the guest speaker to provide an in-depth analysis of various methods for treating prostate cancer.

【前列腺檢查指數超標＝癌症？ PSA指數該如何解讀？】
不少男士在體檢報告中發現 PSA（前列腺特異抗原）指數高於正常範圍，例如升至 10 ng/mL 或以上時，往往會擔心自己是否患上前列腺癌？

本院泌尿外科顧問醫生馬偉傑指出，PSA（前列腺特異抗原）是由前列腺細胞分泌的一種蛋白質。雖然PSA指數是評估前列腺健康的重要篩查指標，但指數高並不等同確診癌症，亦可能與其他良性狀況相關，例如尿道發炎或前列腺良性增生。

🔍 PSA數值背後的意義(單位：ng/mL)：
• PSA 介於4至10：約有25%機會可能與前列腺癌相關。
• PSA 超過10：風險可上升至三分之一或更高。

🛡️面對指數偏高，該如何應對？
• 進行磁力共振掃描 (MRI)：檢查前列腺是否有可疑陰影或異常區域。
• 安排穿刺活檢：若磁力共振發現異常，需透過此方式取得組織樣本進行病理分析，以判斷是否為癌細胞。

💡 前列腺良性增生在50歲以上男性中相當普遍，約55%。雖然可能壓迫尿道導致排尿不暢，但大多可透過藥物或微創手術改善。而前列腺癌早期可能沒有明顯症狀，因此定期篩查至關重要。建議年過 50 的男性可考慮每年進行一次PSA抽血檢查，有助及早發現及治療前列腺癌，可提升早期個案的治療成效，令十年存活率有機會達到九成以上。

[Elevated Prostate Indicator = Cancer? How to Interpret Your PSA Levels]
Many men become concerned about prostate cancer when they see that their PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) level in a health check report is above the normal range, for example reaching 10 ng/mL or higher – and naturally wonder: does this mean they have prostate cancer?

Dr. Ma Wai Kit, Consultant in Urology at our hospital, explains that PSA is a protein produced by prostate cells. While the PSA index is a vital screening tool for assessing prostate health, a high reading does not equate to a confirmed cancer diagnosis. It may stem from other benign conditions, such as urinary tract inflammation or Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).

🔍 The Meaning Behind PSA Levels (unit: ng/mL):
• PSA between 4 and 10: Approximately a 25% chance of being related to prostate cancer.
• PSA exceeding 10: The risk can rise to one-third or higher.

🛡 How to Respond to Elevated Levels?
• MRI: To detect suspicious shadows or abnormal areas within the prostate.
• Prostate Biopsy: If the MRI reveals abnormalities, a biopsy is required to obtain tissue samples for pathological analysis to determine the presence of cancer cells.

💡 Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is quite common in men over 50, affecting about 55%. While it can compress the urethra and cause urinary difficulties, most cases can be improved through medication or minimally invasive surgery. Since early-stage prostate cancer often presents no obvious symptoms, regular screening is crucial. For men over 50, an annual PSA blood test is recommended as an screening option, as it can help with the early detection and treatment of prostate cancer, improve treatment outcomes for early-stage cases, and offer the possibility of achieving a 10 year survival rate of over 90%.

Centred around the theme "Activating Every H.E.A.R.T.", the World Heart Day 2025-26 Healthy Heart Run & Heart Health Carnival successfully brought together over a hundred healthcare professionals from 10 different hospitals. Participants took part in various running events to advocate for doctor-patient synergy in protecting heart health and promoting cardiovascular wellness.

Hong Kong Adventist Hospital (HKAH) was honoured to send several energetic teams to this year’s event. Through their participation, our teams showcased the professional spirit, unity, and unwavering passion of our healthcare staff. 💪💓

Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Tsuen Wan is proud to announce that our team, led by Dr. Yim Kin Ming (Emergency Medicine), Dr. Chan Chi Chiu, Dennis (Orthopaedics & Traumatology) and Dr. Cheung Siu Lun (General Practice), emerged as the Champion in the 3 km Hospital Cup! 🥇

👏 Meanwhile, the team from Hong Kong Adventist Hospital – Stubbs Road also delivered an outstanding performance. Led by Dr. Lo Ka Yip (Cardiology) and Dr. Wong Ping Hong (Neurosurgery), they won second place in the 3 km Hospital Cup!🥈
