May 17 each year is World Hypertension Day. Hypertension is very common in Hong Kong and is often called the “silent killer” because early symptoms are usually not obvious. Regular blood pressure monitoring and understanding your readings are important steps in preventing cardiovascular disease and protecting long-term health.

Review Your Blood Pressure Readings:
According to the guidelines from the American Heart Association (AHA), blood pressure classification is more stringent. A systolic pressure between 120 and 129 mmHg, with a diastolic pressure below 80 mmHg, is considered elevated.

Potential Health Risks:
If blood pressure is not properly managed over time, the pressure exerted on blood vessel walls may damage organs throughout the body and lead to serious complications, including:
