Formerly Portable Fitness, Pakanga Reri (Battle Ready) is a Christian organisation serving those in Central and West Auckland, New Zealand. For the last year we have offered weekly ‘health and sports exercise’ programmes to organisations involved with inactive populations vulnerable to poor health outcomes in person and online. As a mobile health and sports exercise service we are focused on removing barriers to highly deprived groups and reducing their health inequities. We are also guided by well-established frameworks included Te Whare Tapu Wha (Durie, 1984) and Fonofale (Pulotu-Endemann, 1991) health models. By collaborating with local partners, we can provide organisations with sustainable programmes encouraging individuals, groups, and families to take control of their health in a holistic fashion. Jack Nielsen himself is extremely passionate about physical fitness and brings a wealth of knowledge to all of his sessions. He takes particular interest in human movement and really focuses on improving and/or restoring natural human mechanics. Jack draws on his experience as a certified National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Personal trainer, Boot Camp Instructor and ex International Rugby Player to provide his clients with varied 'tailor made' programmes to help them achieve their goals be it weight loss, improved strength and flexibility or just better overall health. Jack also knows what it is to be 'outta shape' having shed 50 kilograms and lives by the motto 'train smart...live better'. If you going to invest your time (and money) in something it should be in your health!

If there’s one aspect of building muscle and losing fat that’s most underrated, it’s definitely sleep 😴. In fact, sleep may be the exact reason why others seem to progress much faster than you are, or why you just aren’t seeing the results you were hoping for despite putting in the work.
Multiple papers have shown that with everything else equated (activity, calorie intake, etc.), the amount you sleep alone can significantly affect how fast you build muscle and/or lose fat 💪.

Rehab considerations!

A new study found that band placement around the feet generated the highest amount of gluteal activity without increasing TFL activity when compared to band placement around the knees or ankles (Lewis et al, 2018).
