I also wanted to share that despite eating a very healthy green diet, my doctor discovered that I was very low on Iron. Here are some things to consider about that, especially for vegetarians and vegans!

Low iron is a problem for many – especially women during their childbearing years, and for children. Read how you can maximize your iron absorption to help fight low iron levels!

Dear Thrive Light Friends! I am sorry to neglect our meeting place for so long. Life took yet another wild turn and I ended up in Croatia to say goodbye to my mother as she took her last breaths and I decided to stay here to support my dad and my brothers in the transition. It has been very sweet and very nourishing for me to be back in Croatia. I am here for now, cooking mostly for family and friends, and working on another project. Much love to all of you! I hope you are staying nourished!

Dear Thrive Light friends, greetings from Bolivia. As promised, this page will be the central spot for all news of new food and nutrition discoveries on my journey in South America :-)
Here in Bolivia, at 14000 feet, we are still enjoying a great variety of fresh greens, probably due to the great geographical diversity of Bolivia. Market day is on friday, and it is so fun to go buy from the cholas, the gorgeous indian women with their colorful skirts and those cool little hats.

For easter I was able to get fresh artichokes, fresh peas and fava beans still in pods, and create an authentic Dalmatian (mediteranean) dish! See below, delicious...

Another day we went to a local authentic fast food restaurant where they only serve ancestral foods the way the aymaras and quechuas would have eaten them in the centuries past. You can see the plate, super simple and super delicious, fresh choklo (non-GMO local corn variety... yum!), fresh home made cheese lightly fried, local potato variety, just boiled with salt, and fava beans, boiled in the pod. So simple. Served with a drink made out of ground grains. I was suspicious about that one, but it was delicious. I think it was called api.

More soon, stay tuned!

Dear Thrive Light friends,
Life in the New Era is so rich with opportunities, and shifts are happening so quickly. Living with surrender and in service is the new game of life, and the outcomes seem to be more and more delightful. So, in this new current, Thrive Light is changing focus for a short while - traveling through South America, creating community, teaching and exploring nutrition and well being in new environments. Stay tuned for blog posts, photos and recipes from the Andes. With love and gratitude, Marija

Cranberry sauce is so easy to make, definitely have it fresh for your Thanksgiving table this year!
Two bags of fresh cranberries, one organic orange and some agave syrup. Maybe some fresh Mint, if you would like a unique touch.
Grate the orange peel first, than squeeze the juice and add both to the cranberries (include the zest too!). Cook over low heat until the cranberries pop. Add agave to taste, but let the tartness of the cranberries still show through, it accompanies the sweetness of yams wonderfully. Cook another 5 minutes for the agave to caramelize. There you have a fresh, zesty, bursting with flavors and color addition to your feast.

“We recognize that food is far more than protein, carbohydrates, fat, and micronutrients, and that food really does represent information. The foods that we consume are instructing our genes. Therefore, that’s a very empowering notion: you can change your genetic destiny based upon the food choices that you make,” Dr. Perlmutter
