Sometimes you KNOW you need a rest day because you’re tired and/or sore.

But what if you aren’t tired and sore? Should you still take off at least one day a week?

Answer: YES.

🧘‍♀There’s a myth a lot of us buy into…

It’s that there’s this utopian place we can get to where everything in our life is perfect and in sync.

You know… the one where you’re working out 4-5 days a week, drinking plenty of water, eating healthy food every day, meditating, your stress is low, you’re sleeping well, and you’re just loving life?

The fact is, that balance isn't going to suddenly appear out of nowhere. It's something you have to create, day by day. 🌱

Just like you don’t magically find a million bucks in your bank account, you don't just “find” balance.

You have to actively work towards it… every dang day!

That can mean:
💪Committing to regular workouts balanced with time for recovery.
🥑Making nutritious meals but allowing yourself a treat now and then.
😴Getting enough sleep while also achieving your daily goals.
🧠Promoting mental wellness alongside physical wellness.

But NOT all at once.

In other words, it’s not about swinging from one extreme to another.

It's about finding the middle ground where you can thrive, without that constant feeling of STRIVING.

The good news is, it’s NEVER too late to start creating more balance in your life. ⚖️

You get three tries.

If you passed the test, that’s awesome! But don’t take it for granted — keep working on your balance.

If you struggled, it might be time to get serious about improving your balance — and it’s also a good idea to mention it to your healthcare provider at your next visit.

Scientists in Brazil found that 20% of older adults who took this test couldn’t pass it.

Here’s the kicker: NOT being able to balance on one leg for 10 seconds was linked with a twofold risk of death (from any cause!) within the next 10 years.

Many factors can play into balance issues, from strength to medications to inner ear issues, and some health conditions.

The good news is, there are things you can do to improve your balance, with specific balance, stability, and strength exercises. T’ai chi, yoga, resistance training, stretching, and more can all help.

And the exercise you did in this test can be a good start to help you improve your balance!

Here's the reality:

🔸 You WILL sometimes crave a snack between meals.
🔸 It’s WAY EASIER to make a snack choice that supports your goals if you have something prepared to munch on.

So how do you balance it all?

Swap high-calorie, high-sugar, high-sodium, and processed snacks with options that are based on whole foods — and that are nutritious and filling. 🍎🥜

It's not just about swapping your cookies for grapes… but also finding snacks that pack a nutrient punch.

A few ideas: seaweed strips, roasted chickpeas, old-fashioned (not super processed) jerky, and/or 1 ounce (28 grams) of high-quality dark chocolate.

FACT: It can take a while to change your snack habits, in part because your tastebuds may be used to ultra-processed foods. Hang in there. The payoffs in your energy and results are SO WORTH IT.
