Friends of Medical Ambassadors Haiti

Friends of Medical Ambassadors Haiti Our mission is holistic transformation of our communities in Haiti physically, economically, sociall AMDH is about people, not projects.

Medical Ambassadors Haiti (Ambassadeurs Medicaux d'Haiti) is a nonprofit based in Cap Haitien, registered with the Haitian government, working in over 60 communities around Haiti. We use the Community Health Evangelism (CHE) model of sustainable development (see chenetwork.org), training people to improve their lives and those of their neighbors through disease prevention, creating clean water acc

ess, building intra-community connections, micro-enterprise, savings clubs, creating shared space, spiritual renewal, Bible study, and more. We have three full-time staff in Haiti and several dozen volunteer trainers and master trainers, as well as some 1200 volunteer community health evangelists in communities and villages. We carry out small agricultural, water, and microenterprise projects, but only as initiated at the community level. Our real work is education - neighbors teaching neighbors about how to improve life together in villages and neighborhoods. We are a Christian organization whose come out of various denominational traditions. We have embraced the CHE model as we see it as having captured Jesus' example of teaching, caring, and acting in ways that tend to the health, spiritual, social and economic needs of the people around him. We are deeply grateful for the support of our partners Medical Ambassadors International (https://www.facebook.com/Medical-Ambassadors-International-248754768492686/) and World Challenge (https://www.facebook.com/wccommunityministry/?fref=ts)

Amidst all of the troubles that the people of Haiti are facing, volunteers with Medical Ambassadors Haiti (MAH) continue to bless their neighbors! We were just sent a video of a seedling garden that was thriving, despite drought in the region. The seeds were a donation from Hope Seeds International, and the agricultural techniques were taught by the community health workers from MAH.

In addition to drought in some areas, there is flooding in others. And everywhere, it seems, the violence that has been spreading since the assassination of the president (in 2021). A few weeks ago I received this update: "Our children continue to be able to go to school, but the problems with conflict and violence also continue all over the country. A few days ago, bandits attacked in the Mirebalais area (in the Central Plateau province). That led to many people fleeing the region because they were unable to resist the pressure of these armed groups. So now many families have additional people in their homes, and all the while the economic crisis worsens each day."

Please consider a donation today to help these volunteers have the tools they need to continue their important work! https://www.mahfriends.org/donate

Many of you will have heard the news today that the FAA is currently prohibiting all US flights into Haiti after two planes were shot at in Port-au-Prince. During this time of political upheaval and skyrocketing inflation, the all-Haitian volunteers with Medical Ambassadors Haiti are still able to work in their own communities to bring hope and good health.

Their team can use your donation now more than ever. See here for ways to donate: https://www.mahfriends.org/donate (This photo of a peacock was taken in northern Haiti.)

Lack of infrastructure in Haiti means that there are few government-led efforts to do things like maintaining roads and protecting springs of water. Poor roads impact how everyone can move outside of their community. People will take time away from their fields and work together on roads: widening a walking track so a mule can haul loads, repairing washed out dirt roads or expanding a stretch of dirt road so trucks can pass. Medical Ambassadors Haiti uses proven community development tools to help people come together to find locally available resources, and finds organizations to partner with them on important community projects. Your donation today will help people to work to make their communities thrive! https://www.gofundme.com/f/5ds65-medical-ambassadors-haiti?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR2O6yqHu5-drWx7l-NK_cDWRWAU0rmRvXQVI_84fHljiGhbcqxsNY4_P_Q_aem_AZe5DM3KzSbZBKsvn0UG47dBPWhS4SqdwJpNCiYnjhqVzTsX7azz851leB7Jbwj2UbUJW0wAGhscdKOOKH0PcVIG

Clean drinking water! Throughout Haiti, most people
get the water they use from rivers or wells. Cholera is now endemic
in the country, meaning that it is present throughout the water
supply (in addition to other pathogens). Medical Ambassadors Haiti
teaches both the importance of making water potable (safe for
drinking) as well as simple ways to do so. Your donation today will
keep children healthy!

Cholera was introduced in Haiti in late 2010 and quickly became endemic. After about six or eight horrific months, cases started to wane. Sadly, there is now another spike of cholera in the country.

Our teams of local volunteers are preparing to remobilize efforts at prevention and treatment throughout northern Haiti. You can help! Funds are needed for teaching materials as well as transportation costs and oral rehydration packets. Please consider a donation today.

For online donations you may go to www.WorldOutreach.org/398. (Please specify that funds are for the fight against cholera, otherwise they will be put to the team's general community health budget.)
