My name is Amber and I am a level II certified dental assistant. The summer of 2015 I decided I would travel to Haiti to Feed My Lambs Ministry to handout toothbrushes and teach the children at the orphanage how to care for their teeth. In the process of setting up that trip I mentioned to one of the Dentist (Dr.Kinga Haft) I was working with in Bermuda about my idea for this mission trip. She the
n asked if I would be interested in an entire dental clinic in which she had in a storage unit in the United States and was likely never going to be needing again. My response after I got over the shock of what she had just said was "OF COURSE!"
I very quickly went out into the community in Bermuda and received sponsorship from Digicel Bermuda, Allianz Insurance, Vinyl Tech and kind donations from family and friends. The money was raised and the equipment was shipped to Haiti. Bermuda Overseas Missions then Blessed me by going to Haiti to build the clinic. In September 2016 I arrived in Haiti after a year of planning and sleepless nights. I was greeted by many beautiful Haitians and they welcomed me into their lives and I am honored to now call them all my family. The trip was a great success as we were able to paint and tile the clinic. Unload the container of equipment and supplies. The clinic was set up! :)
January 2017 we were able to successfully run our first Hygiene clinic.
72 patients were seen in 4.5 days for charting, cleaning & oral hygiene instructions. All of the children at the Orphanage and then some were treated. This clinic is dedicated firstly to the orphanage as a preventive clinic and then to the school children (700) and outsiders for emergency services. When a dental team arrives they will be able to pick up where the last team left off in terms of restorative and preventive care for the children of the orphanage. When asked how I was able to make this facility possible my response is always.. BY GOD'S GRACE! There is no other way to explain it. He placed the courage, determination and ambition in my heart along with the passion to make a difference in this word. When we are willing HE WILL make us qualified. I am Blessed to have been given this opportunity to share my dental related skills, knowledge and my love with the beautiful people of Haiti. They have been a gift to me!!! God Bless all who read this. Volunteers & Donations will always be needed to continue this amazing project. Dental Trips will take place every March, July & November. Mercy!Mesi!
