Astanga yoga beginners course in NJOY yoga studio Budapest
From September 23rd to October 31st
What kind of yoga is astanga?
Astanga yoga is a dynamic, flowing style that connects the movement of the body with breathing. It’s based on daily practice of a set series of movements. There are 6 series of asanas (postures) through which the student progresses at their own pace. Astanga yoga is named after the term given in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras for the eight-fold path of yoga, astanga means ’eight-limbed’ in Sanksrit. The practice was developed in Mysore, India where Sri K. Pattabhi Jois taught and set up the Astanga Yoga Research Institute (KPJYI).
This course is an introduction to the beautiful and challenging Astanga Yoga practice. It is designed to help you memorize half of the Astanga Primary series and get a basic knowledge about this yoga style.
Why is it important to memorize the sequence?
The meaning of Yoga is Union. By memorizing the sequence, we bring the mind directly into the practice and connect the body with the breathing. This leads to awareness and mindfulness in all aspects of our lives.
The first part of the course will consist of four 2 hour classes held on four consecutive Sundays between the 23rd of September and 14th of October with each class starting at 11AM.You will pass through half of the Primary Astanga Yoga series and the finishing postures.
After the first part of the course you are able to join the Morning Mysore practice group in NJOY studio (four Mysore style classes from Monday to Thursday and a led class on Friday). The second part of the course includes two weeks of these morning classes for free (between the 14th and the 25th of October).
What is Mysore practice?
It is the traditional way of practice of Astanga Yoga as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India. During Mysore classes students do their own practice and they are given individual instructions and hands on adjustments from their teacher.
What is led class?
During led classes the mind needs to stay outward concentrating on the instructions. Practitioners listen and do their practice at the same time and at a pace set by the teacher
