💫From an article from the Speaking Tree by John Hughes (revised)…

✨Universe as Divine Play of Diversity and Duality.
Abhinavagupta tells us in his Ta**raloka that “Moksha only exists when your being becomes absolutely independent. According to him, a yogi can only be said to be liberated when he possesses this absolute independence; nothing must limit him or overshadow his universal consciousness. This process begins when the yogi is experiencing the state of internal mystical awareness, relishing the fullness of his internal God consciousness.. At that moment he is pulled out of the internal world into the world of external experience. His eyes open.

✨The yogi may experience a chair or a tree, but the experience is filled with universal God consciousness. Everywhere he looks, whatever he sees is filled with universal God consciousness. Then again, his eyes close and he is drawn inside. And again, after a few moments, his eyes open and he is drawn outside experiencing the world filled with the oneness of God. He cannot stop this process. This is the process known as krama mudra…

🌟The teachings of Kashmir Shaivism are derived from the ninety-two Ta**ras, also known as Agamas, revealed by Lord Siva in the form of a dialog between himself and the Divine Mother.

Of these Ta**ras, sixty-four are considered purely monistic, eighteen are monistic-cum-dualistic, and ten are dualistic. Kashmir Shaivism derives its teachings from the sixty-four monistic Ta**ras, known as the Bhairava Ta**ras, the essence of which is called ‘Trika Shaivism’.

👉The word trika means “the threefold science of man and his world.” In the idea of trika, there are three energies: parā (supreme), parāparā (medium) and aparā (lowest). These three primary energies represent the threefold activities of the world. In the thought of Trika, therefore, it is admitted that this whole universe and every action in it, whether spiritual, physical, or worldly, is existing in these three energies.

✨It should be noted, that Kashmir Shaivism has a uniquely different approach to the eight limbs of Yoga (ashtanga yoga) than that outlined by Patanjali.

🌸“In Kashmir Shaivism the yamas, niyamas and asanas, are not added as limbs of yoga.” (Ta**raloka 5th ahnika)

✨In his translation of the 4th chapter of Ta**raloka, Swami Lakshmanjoo explains that Abhinavagupta has given importance to only six limbs of yoga–pranayama, pratyahara, dhyana, dharana, tarka and samadhi. Swamiji points out that the eight limbs of yoga, set out by Patanjali, help those aspirants residing on the lower level of practice, the means known as anavopaya. But for more advanced practice, the means known as shaktopaya and shambhavopaya, they are of no use. The main point in Kashmir Shaivism is “awareness.”

✨In Trika Shaivism pranayama, pratyahara, dhyana and dharana are considered to be external ways of maintaining the strength of yoga.

🌸There is only one predominant limb of yoga that is “tarka.” Tarka means ‘perception which differentiates’. It is discriminating, transcendental logic. This fifth limb of yoga is the discrimination between individual and universal, i.e. discriminating logic and reasoning from within your own consciousness.

“On the pathway of your breath maintain continuously refreshed and full awareness on and in the center of breathing in and breathing out. This is force and this is internal asana.” (Netra Ta**ra)

The difference between Kashmir Shaivism and Advaita Vedanta

🌹Although the main principle of both Kashmir Śaivism and Vedānta is monism (advaita), pure monism, yet there are many important differences in their thinking.

The first difference between Kashmir Śaivism and Vedānta is in their different understanding of karmayoga. The Vedāntins believing that karmayoga means doing all actions without asking for their reward and our Kashmir Śaivism teaching that yoga in action means doing all actions while maintaining a break-less contemplation of God.

-In this excerpt, Swami Lakshmanjoo explains the difference between Kashmir Shaivism and Advaita Vedanta, from the book Kashmir Shaivism, The Secret Supreme.

🌅Chapter Fifteen: Kashmir Shaivism and Advaita Vedanta

✨Although the main principle of both Kashmir Śaivism and Vedānta is monism (advaita), pure monism, yet there are many important differences in their thinking. For example, Vedānta masters teach that karmayoga means yoga in action.
They believe that you must practice niḥṣkāma karmayoga, which means that you are to perform all the actions of the world without asking for any reward. They say that by acting in this way you are carried toward the existence of the Real Being, the Real Nature of Self.

✨From our Kashmir Śaiva point of view, however, karmayoga means something else. It does not mean carrying out all of the activities of the world. Yoga in action is pure yoga and nothing else. Pure yoga is one-pointedness, and this one-pointedness must be developed in three ways.

🌅 Kashmir Shaivism is known as the Pure Trika System. The word trika means “the threefold science of man and his world.”

"Trika system is meant for any human being, without the restriction of caste, creed or color." ~Swami Lakshmanjoo

✴In this excerpt from the book Kashmir Shaivism, The Secret Supreme, Chapter 19: The Schools and systems of Kashmir Shaivism, Swamiji explains the four sub-systems of this philosophy.

"Early in the mornings for all of you"

Sit motionless.
Do not grumble of bad environments.
Create your own mental world and environments.
Build up your character properly.
Establish virtuous healthy habits.
Understand the glory, splendor & Power of God, who is at the back of your mind, thoughts, will and memory.
Keep your body strong and healthy through regular exercise.
Become a spiritual hero.
Shut out the doors of the senses.
Still the thoughts, emotions and feelings.
Sit motionless and calm in the early morning hours.
Have a receptive attitude.
Go along with God.
Enjoy peace in the silence.
How I like these golden rules which have come out from some Divine lips.

Yours as ever,
Lakshmanjoo

“So, O my devotees,” Abhinavagupta says to everybody, “O my devotees, asmin sanmārge, on this path of Parabhairava, the achievement of Parabhairava, whoever has taken a step with pure desire, no matter if that desire is slow or if that desire is intense or whatever it is, who has taken this step, who has tread on this step, . . .”

It does not matter if he is a brahmin, if he is a wattal (sweeper), if he is an outcast, if he is anybody, it does not matter for that.

“. . . nirato yaḥ kaścid eti sa śivatam, he becomes one with Parabhairava. Iti matvā, this way you should take in your mind, yathātathāpi prayatanīyam, whatever happens, whatever may come, go on doing practice, go on doing practice. That practice may be the lowest practice, that practice may be medium practice, that practice may be intense practice, go on doing something, yathātathāpi, whatever comes. If you are trodden down, go on doing, go on remembering God, go on remembering God. This is the way in which[ever] way you will remember [Him], bas, He will carry you, He will carry you. Because that remembrance is [the way]. It may be medium; it may be low, it may be very low, it may be the lowest, it may be intense, it may be very intense, that does not matter. Go on, another step, another step.”

The difference between introverted and extroverted paths

This is a misunderstanding of Pārvatī. She wants to clarify it.

Attainment of the supreme state of the Lord cannot exist when there is differentiatedness of letters or differentiatedness of bodies.

In his commentary on the Paratrishika Vivarana, Swamiji explains: “It may be in aham bhava [state] or in ma-ha-a bhava–that is one and the same thing from the Shaiva point of view. When you digest this whole, along with Shiva, in the individual, that is aham bhava (we are situated in aham bhava at present). And when it [the individual] is digested in the supreme nature of God consciousness, that is ma-ha-a bhava. Ma-ha-a is the introverted course, and [aham] is the extroverted course; [it is] one and the same thing. You may be individual, no worry; you may be universal, no worry. There is no difference, not even the slightest difference, between the individual soul and Lord Shiva from the Trika point of view.”
