On the eve of Nyepi, Bali hosts one of the most powerful and spectacular traditions — the Wow parade.

In Amed, the Wow—Wow parade begins in the village of Chulik at the main intersection (turn off the highway to Amed), where a whole performance is staged.

From each surrounding village, residents together, with a large grappa, bring huge statues of monsters and arrange a small performance, dancing with them.

Balinese people create them for several months when they are preparing for their New Year.

And these are not just "scary monsters", they are spiritual and demonic images that symbolize the chaos, fears and negative energy that has accumulated over the year.

And this colorful spectacle ends by the sea — on Melasti beach, the main ceremonial beach of Ameda, next to our Yoga Center.

There, under the sound of the waves, huge figures of demons are burned right on the shore, symbolically destroying everything negative before the new cycle.

Fire, night, ocean and the energy of people, this is a very spectacular Balinese ritual.

At this point, Bali lets go of the old in order to completely shut up the next day and start all over again.

And if you see it live, it will be remembered forever.

On March 19, 2026, the day after the Oh-Oh Monster Parades, Bali will have a Day of Silence.

All institutions, shops and even the airport will be closed on this day. You can't leave the house, turn on the lights, turn on the music, talk loudly, light bonfires. Internet shutdown is possible.

Don't forget to stock up on groceries for a day!
