I took a significant chance and ran a retreat I wasn’t sure would work.

If there’s one mantra that has shaped my life, it’s Joseph Campbell’s famous line: “Follow your bliss.”

In university, I decided to follow my bliss rather than my dad’s and chose warrior ones over lawyer ones — and pursued my love for yoga.

That passion is stronger than ever, but I’m constantly evolving. In the past few years, I’ve fallen in love with bodyweight calisthenics — I even call myself a gymnastic ring evangelist because I want others to learn the intelligence they unlock.

Calisthenics increases strength, coordination, neuroplasticity, and community connection, which are desperately needed in a disconnected world.

With Joseph Campbell’s whisper of “✨keep following your bliss✨” in my ear, I created Loose, Fit & Happy: a retreat blending Indian yoga, Greek calisthenics, and Stoic philosophy.

And it was more impactful than I ever imagined.

The age range spanned from 9 to 77.

We explored Marcus Aurelius’s wisdom:✨” The obstacle becomes the opportunity.✨” I had worried the strength work might feel too hard or vain — but instead, we practiced community support, lifting each other up in every sense.

We meditated by the ocean, moved and laughed together, and shared small-group circles where raw, vulnerable conversations turned strangers into lifelong friends.

I’ll leave you with the Marcus Aurelius quote that guided us daily: “Be kind to everyone you meet, for they too are fighting a hard battle.” 💛

Imagine going to a gym where you couldn’t adjust the weight—everyone had to bench press 200 pounds.

That’s what we do in Chaturanga when we cue 90° elbows and biceps parallel to the floor—regardless of your strength level.

Now ask yourself: would you recommend that everyone, regardless of strength, keep their forearms perpendicular to the floor in Chaturanga?

Almost everybody does. Just Google “how to do Chaturanga,” and you’ll see—98% of the results show this exact same form.

It’s incredible—and troubling—that this blind pursuit of aesthetic alignment is actually overloading people’s joints. Instead of preventing injuries, it’s causing them—especially in the wrists and shoulders.

That’s why I spent 10 years writing Yoga Optimized—to challenge these inherited cues and bring biomechanics into the conversation.

Yes, I even asked ChatGPT for instructions on Chaturanga. It gave me the same outdated advice—because AI is just recycling what’s already online.
