Mouth and Gut Connection
1. GERD (Acid Reflux)
Excess stomach acid from GERD can travel up into the mouth. This acidic environment can wear down the tooth enamel (dental erosion) and may also cause bad breath.
2. Not Drinking Enough Water
Dehydration can reduce the quality and amount of saliva. Saliva helps clean the mouth naturally, so when it decreases, the risk of tooth decay (cavities) can increase.
3. Nutrient Deficiency
Lack of nutrients such as vitamin C, B12, folate, and iron can weaken the immune system and increase the risk of developing oral ulcers (canker sores).
