One hundred and twenty years is a very long period of time with only a few reaching that age. Bio Farma is one of the few companies which have been able to survive and continue to grow over 120 years. Bio Farma has witnessed various revolutions and the regimes, modifying the corporation several times to follow the changing times.On August 6, 1890, by the Decree of the Governor of the Dutch East
Indies No. 14 in 1890, “Parc Vaccinogene” was established, becoming the forerunner of Bio Farma. Initially these institutions occupied a pavilion at the Military Hospital Weltevreden, Batavia now the Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital (RSPAD Gatot Soebroto), Jakarta.Since the beginning, Parc Vaccinogene was given great attention in the health field. Various studies were conducted to exterminate infectious diseases and in other related research fields, until Parc Vaccinogene finally established a cooperation with institution of Pasteurto to conduct research on microbiology, so the institution changed its name to Parc Vaccinogene en Instituut Pasteur.The commitment to keep the research going forward continued in the era of independence. Although the legal status has changed several times, the commitment remained because Bio Farma has been aware of its important role in developing the nation’s health.Bio Farma continued to collaborate with various national and international research institutions in technology transfer. Bio Farma became one of few manufacturers of the world’s vaccines that have WHO qualification, so Bio Farma is trusted to supply the vaccine needs in more than 122 countries. Bio Farma is continually innovating in many areas while referring to international standards and maintaining a current quality management system. Since 1997, Bio Farma is one of 23 manufacturers of vaccines worldwide who have earned the WHO Prequalification. Bio Farma also has been certified GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) by the National Agency of Drug & Food Control (NADFC), Quality Management System ISO 9001: 2008, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001: 2007. These landmarks were made possible from the results of hard work, dedication and loyalty from 900 employees in creating an international standard vaccine manufacturer. Currently, Bio Farma operates in two different locations, first at Pasteur Street No. 28 Bandung with 91,058 m2 of land used for production facilities, Research and Development, Marketing, and Administration. While the second location is in Cisarua, Lembang, West Bandung regency with 282,441 m2 land area used for breeding and maintenance of laboratory animals. To support operations, the company also has a representative office at Arthaloka Building 3rd floor Sudirman Street No. 2, Jakarta.
