“You Don’t Need a Medical Degree”

You don’t need to be a doctor to help your child thrive.
You just need to be present, loving, and open to learning.

This kit, and this page, were built by a fellow mum — not a specialist.
But sometimes, lived experience is the best teacher.
I’m glad you’re here.

“Small Wins = Big Deal”

Crohn’s can steal so much from childhood.
So when your kid finishes a meal, sleeps through the night, or gets through a school day without pain — celebrate that.

This page is here to remind you that small wins matter.

“When Kids Don’t Want to Talk”

My son barely spoke about it at first.
Didn’t want to talk. Didn’t want me to talk either.
But I learned ways to still support him without pushing too hard.

This page is a soft place to land when you’re figuring out how to be your kid’s anchor without being overbearing.

You’re learning. So am I. We’re doing this together.

Making a plan or a routine will make your day flow better.

Here are the 10 healthy habits that you should commit to

1. Rise at 6am each morning.
2. Start the day with a glass of warm water + lemon juice. Lemons pack a powerful punch and are a great way to stimulate digestion, boost your metabolism, and improve your skin.
3. Yoga / exercise for an hour. If morning exercise isn't your thing, remind yourself how good you will feel after it as motivation
4. Meditate and intention setting for the day.
5. Eat a good healthy breakfast.
6. Read or watch something that inspires me.
7. Repeat positive affirmations.
8. Write down 5 things I’m grateful for.
9. Map out my day and make a plan for how I will get things done on my list.
10. Start out the day with ‘eating my biggest frog’ – the hardest or most dreaded thing on my to-do list so I get it out of the way.

Why You Should Sit Up Straight.

Remember when your mother used to say things like, “Eat all your vegetables.” And, “Look both ways before you cross the street.” Let’s not forget her mantra, “Sit up straight!” So many people today work in sedentary jobs that require them to sit for most of the workday. However, whether sitting at a desk, a football game, or in front of a television set, good posture is imperative to your spinal health. And poor postural habits are a leading contributor to back pain.

Checking Your Posture

Let’s take a look at how you’re sitting right at this moment.

1. Are your feet flat on the floor, with your knees at a 90-degree angle?
2. Are your buttocks, back and shoulders up against the backrest of your chair?
3. Does the chair you’re sitting in provide enough lumbar support? Does the backrest fit into the natural curve of your spine?
4. Are your shoulders relaxed and even, not hunched in a forward position?
5. Is your body weight equally distributed across both hips?
6. Are your knees level with or slightly higher than your hips?

If you answered “No” to any of these questions, you are probably exerting undue stress on your spine; this will eventually cause back pain.

Change How You Sit

Keep in mind that it is not a good idea to sit in the same position for more than 40 minutes. Chronic slouching affects the discs between the vertebrae and may cause them to bulge or become herniated. Take the time to stand up and stretch your back and legs or take a short walk periodically.

If you’re already finding that back pain is creeping into your life, give us a call.

All About the Cervical Spine

The cervical spine – that is, the upper seven of our vertebrae – must surely rank among the most under-appreciated and most vital parts of our body. Its 37 separate joints endlessly allow the head and neck to move atop the torso – all the while obeying constant commands from the special senses and reflex mechanisms.
Look at it this way: the cervical spine faithfully holds up our heavy heads between 14 to 16 hours a day. This is hardly easy. First of all, the head is far from evenly balanced on top of our spine. In fact, it’s tilted heavily forward; without the cervical muscles, it would topple over onto our chest.

Secondly, the head’s weight can become unbearable over time. (If you’d like to get a clearer picture, try this experiment: hold a bowling ball with your elbow on a table for as long as you can. Few people can keep this up longer than an hour.)
That means the cervical spine is a vital part of nearly all our everyday activities, including speaking, gesturing, sitting, standing, lying down, breathing and many more. Most of what our head does, it does thanks to the cervical spine.

Protecting Your Spine

That’s why so many of the injuries to this area are so serious – often resulting in paralysis or death. For example, hitting your head on the bottom of the pool or tackling in sports can compress the cervical spine against the shoulder and cause grave injury. Even everyday headaches often involve the cervical spine.
