𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗶𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 was to assess dermoscopic features of PN and LSC of the scalp across fair- and dark-skinned individuals and compare them with those of clinical mimickers.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: Dermoscopy is a valuable adjunct in the non-invasive diagnosis of PN and LSC of the scalp, with good reproducibility across skin phototypes.

Adequate consumption of 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻 𝗔 is necessary for the maintenance of healthy skin and hair. Both too little and too much vitamin A have deleterious effects. This is because vitamin A affects the skin and hair in a dose-dependent manner. Vitamin A must be metabolized intracellularly to its active forms (retinal and retinoic acid). Retinoic acid dose-dependently regulates hair follicle stem cells, influencing the functioning of the hair cycle, wound healing, and melanocyte stem cells [𝟭,𝟮] .

People commonly inquire about vitamin and mineral supplementation and diet as a means to prevent or manage dermatological diseases, particularly hair loss. However, it should be noted that both vitamin A deficiency (resulting from inadequate dietary intake or disease) and vitamin A excess due to overconsumption (either from excessive supplementation or the use of retinoids) can lead to hair loss. In general, over-supplementation or excessive intake of vitamin A is more commonly associated with clinically significant hair loss [𝟭,𝟮].

According to the literature [𝟮], in most cases a balanced diet provides an adequate amount of vitamin A. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), assuming a coefficient of variation (CV) of 15%, established Population Reference Intakes (PRIs) for vitamin A for adults over 19 years of age at 650–750 µg retinol equivalents (RE)/day (≈2167–2500 IU/day), depending on s*x. While there is no established upper intake level for provitamin A carotenoids, excessive intake of preformed vitamin A can be toxic. The tolerable upper intake level (UL) for preformed vitamin A in adults is 3000 µg RE/day (≈10,000 IU/day). Consumption exceeding this level may lead to vitamin A toxicity. Therefore, it is important to consider the form of vitamin A in supplements (provitamin A carotenoids vs. preformed vitamin A), as well as the amount consumed [𝟮,𝟯,𝟰].

We left Denver and the AAD Annual Meeting with a lot to reflect on.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, whether for a demo, a question, or a quick exchange between sessions. It was a pleasure to meet so many professionals and hear their perspectives on what is currently shaping the future of dermatology and trichology.

A special thank-you to Prof. for her excellent talk during the Italian Scientific Dinner. Prof. Tosti, you were great and inspiring as always 😊. And thank you to everyone who joined us there, brought thoughtful questions to the discussion, and helped make it such a worthwhile evening.

Last week brought no shortage of medical meetings, and Thai-Up: Hair Summit 2026 was one of them.
Held on March 27 at Seda Vertis North, Quezon City, Manila Philippines the event was organized by the East Avenue Medical Center Department of Dermatology and brought together a strong professional audience around hair and scalp care.

A special thank-you to Dr. Maria Franchesca S. Quinio-Calayag, MD, FPDS, for the inspiring lecture, “Advances in the Management of Hair Loss: Trichogenic Technology for Hair Regrowth.”

Congratulations to all participants on a rich day of learning, and thank you for the conversations and for sharing the experience with us.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: The age of onset of FAPD appears to be earlier in Latin American male patients compared with European and North American male patients. Most male patients with FAPD clinically resemble AGA in their classic pattern of hair loss.
