Jakarta: Konsorsium Riset dan Inovasi Covid-19 tengah mengembangkan Mesenchymal Stem
Cell (MSC) untuk memberi terapi kepada penderita covid-19. Menteri Riset Teknologi/ Kepala
Badan Riset Inovasi Nasional (Menristek/BRIN) Bambang Brodjonegoro menyebut stem cell
dapat membantu pasien dengan kategori berat.
"Dalam uji klinis dapat dibuktikan bahwa stem cell ini bermanfaat untuk pasien dengan kategori
berat," jelas Bambang dalam Alternatif Terapi Covid-19 Dengan Mesenkimal Sel Punca dan
Eksosom secara daring, Jumat, 5 Februari 2021.
Bambang mengatakan, model stem cell ini menjadi pelengkap terapi yang sudah ada.
Sebelumnya penderita covid-19 tingkat ringan dan sedang dapat dibantu dengan plasma
konvalesen.
"Nah, stem cell barangkali bisa melengkapi. Dan tentunya ini harus diperkuat terus risetnya dan
pemakaiannya, sehingga lama kelamaan selain kita jamin keamanannya tapi yang paling penting
efektivitasnya," lanjut Bambang.
Dia meyakini, jika terapi stem cell maupun plasma konvalesen mampu meningkatkan
kesembuhan penderita covid-19. Paling penting, dapat menurunkan angka kematian.
Saat ini uji klinis stem cell sudah selesai dan sedang diajukan ke Badan Pengawas Obat dan
Makanan (BPOM). Hal itu dimaksudkan untuk mendapatkan izin pemanfaatan yang lebih luas.
Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSC) atau sel punca merupakan induk dari semua sel yang ada di
tubuh manusia untuk menggantikan sel yang mati. MSC akan membelah diri untuk mengasilkan
sel baru guna meneruskan tugas sel yang sudah mati.
