Mucointegration(TM) Process of Oral Implants: The Importance of the Soft Tissue Barrier

The interface between the soft tissue and a dental implant is uniquely different from that present between the soft tissue and a natural tooth.
The chapter describes and illustrates these differences as well as the biocompatibility of transmucosal components and the effect of prosthetic procedures and trans-mucosal abutment design on soft tissue integration. Also, the effect of soft tissue thickness on bone remodeling is discussed.
