[MISD] What are MISD 3rd year students learning?

At MISD, the curriculum is divided into 2 phases. The first phase lasts for the first 3,5 years, including basic medical knowledge and pre-clinical practice.

This phase, firstly, provides students background knowledge and skills on theories, mechanisms, and inter-disciplines. Secondly, prepare mindset, behavior for a future doctor before clinical practicing. Thirdly, training in scientific research through the publications of scientific articles in domestic and international magazines. To achieve pre-clinical skills on patients (of course still under the supervision of lecturers), students must undergo a comprehensive exam after 3.5 years. Upon passing this exam, students will achieve a BDS - Bachelor of Dental Science degree, which is equivalent to a Bachelor of Dentistry.

Entering the second phase of the last 1.5 years, students will spend most of their time in hospitals and clinics, practicing all types of simple and complexed dental treatments. Students then have to conduct a research project under supervision on a particular topic.

The first batch of students are currently in the second semester of their third year. Gaining the most common skills of dentistry such as Restoration and Endodontics are the big goals for this academic year. Students have access to the most up-to-date principles, materials and equipment.

Students also learn how to perform a full recovery of all types of substances, instructed by Dr. Fernando Munguia from Loma Linda University, California, USA, in charge of MISD Restorative department. Direct restoration such as fillings with Tofflemire molds, Garrison rings, to indirect restoration such as inlay/onlay, crowns, bridges with plastic teeth samples, d**e sets, Jiffi polisher, sand blowers, 3M cement or all brands used by clinicians, all applications are included for student practicing.

For example, in Endodontics trained by Dr. Jose Aranguren from Madrid, Spain, students have access to the latest technology of contemporary Endodontics and maximum support from Denstply’s latest equipment system.

The full life of a dentist is increasingly getting into the minds of young people. Then from the subconscious, they would improve themselves in skills, thoughts and manners, ready to receive the title of Doctor of Dental Surgery, which will be given in more than 2 years. We are eagerly awaiting the first batch of young doctors to graduate with such a strong faith that they will color the dental industry with more and more excitement.

[MISD] Qualities to become a dentist

You probably already know:

Dentist is a doctor who specializes in dentistry (teeth - jaw - face). Dentist is the doctor that you will be closed to from preschool age (replacing baby teeth), adolescents (orthodontics), adolescents (fillings, bleaching), adulthood (gum treatment, aesthetic porcelain face stickers), to middle and senior citizens (prostheses, implants, periodontal).

You may not know:

Dentist is a sculptor: sculpting teeth model on wax, sculpting plastic teeth and porcelain teeth on the mouth.

Dentist is an engineer: analyzing mechanical force, designing and choosing suitable materials for each patient.

Dentist is a business administrator: operating the clinic hospital business, managing the clinic hospital's staff, having skills in negotiation, planning and time management.

Dentist is a psychotherapist: being able to understand the wishes and needs of the patient, analyze the psychology of the patient based on the living environment and history of health care, advice and persuasion of appropriate treatment, reassuring and encouraging psychotherapy cooperation.

Thus, to become a dentist, you may have all of the above qualities, or none of them but you have the desire to explore and develop yourself. Any energy can cultivate that success.

[MISD] COMMUNICATION SKILL IN DENTISTRY

Communication is an important skill for any profession and dentistry is not an exceptional one. It is necessary to reach an agreement on treatment and to maintain cooperation during treatment.

If you are a patient who comes for dental treatment, how will you feel if your dentist is taciturn? Are you comfortable going through treatment?! Or feeling anxious and even frightened?!

Another example, on the contrary, if your dentist is too comfortably, relaxed and casually inappropriate, can you trust him or her?!

It could be seen that communication in dental treatment needs to be friendly but in limitation, fun but professional, so that patients feel comfortable, relieved and believe in indications and treatment procedures.

Besides, communication needs to be in tune, meaning that the dentist must catch the patient's psychology in order to have appropriate behavior, based on personal factors (medical history, physical conditions, habits, hobbies ...), social factors (living and working environment), cultural factors (qualifications, nationality). Studies of behavioral psychology have shown that people who have the same behavior and communication are easily receptive to information, thanks to a sense of familiarity and closeness.

Hence, even if the doctor is the one who decides treatment plans, communication skill is always necessary.

☀️🌞SUMMER CAMP FOR DENTIST IN FUTURE

Dentistry always has selective and high targets. Vietnam’s population has 97 million people (2018) and dentistry is one of the good careers with high income and nearly-zero unemployment rate. Particularly, since the ASEAN practice agreement was signed in February 2009, dentists are free to work within Southeast Asian. That even makes this industry extremely more attractive.

With the desire to create opportunities for Vietnamese students to access international dentist training programs, McGann International School of Dentistry - MISD Indonesia organizes the "Summer Camp for Dentist in Future" course:

👉 Participants: High school students from 15 to 18 years old (Students will be tested for English proficiency)

👉 Timetable: Intake Opening date Registration before:
1/ June 17 th , 2019 May 15 th , 2019
2/ July 29 th , 2019 June 15 th , 2019

💘 Study program: 4 weeks in Singapore:
+ Study English, Bahasa Indonesia at Singapore AAC school.
+ Study soft skills: communication, time management, teamwork
+ Explore Singapore environment: Garden by The Bay, Universal, China Town

💝 Special:
Students participate in Summer Camp for Dentist in Future will be awarded a certificate of graduation from English courses in Singapore recognized by MISD as a foreign language.

🎯 Tuition fee: 2,200 SGD / month
Tuition fee includes application fee, administration fee, English, Bahasa Indonesia fee.
Students must complete tuition 2 weeks at least before the start of the course.
Students pay tuition fee by transferring money or paying directly at a representative office in Vietnam.
Tuition fee does not include other surcharges such as meals, travel expenses (airplane/bus/MRT), transfer fees, foreign exchange fees, and other fees associated with third parties. 
Tuition fee is nonrefundable in circumstances (except special cases reviewed by the school or representative office).

Batik được cho là bắt nguồn từ một từ tiếng Malaysia, có nghĩa là “chấm, điểm”, để chỉ những vệt màu nhuộm trên vải.Kỹ thuật nhuộm Batik vô cùng tinh xảo. Người nghệ nhân phác họa các họa tiết bằng sáp ong, sau đó trải qua rất nhiều bước kỳ công khác như sử dụng khuôn khắc, in để vẽ hoa văn tuyệt đẹp lên vải, lụa, bông, da, giấy và thậm chí cả gỗ.Những vật liệu nhuộm xong sẽ được đem phơi khô và nhúng để hòa tan hết sáp. Khi lớp sáp bay đi, các họa tiết đã vẽ trước đó lộ ra trên vải, thể hiện sự tỉ mỉ, cầu kỳ của nghệ nhân.

Trong ngày cưới, cô dâu, chú rể Indonesia sẽ mặc trang phục với họa tiết tượng trưng cho cuộc sống thịnh vượng, bền lâu.
