Since 1991 We have performed over 60,000 sight restoring operations, screened over 1.2 million patients, and given out more than 546,000 prescription glasses.

Around the world, women face higher rates of visual impairment, yet often have less access to treatment.

At JFF, we are working toward gender equity in eye care by actively encouraging women to attend screenings and clinics. In 2024, 54% of those screened and 51% of patients who received sight-restoring surgery were women.

Faced with the challenge of reaching blind and poor communities in remote villages, John Fawcett envisioned a mobile operating theatre that could bring care directly to them.

What began as a secondhand school bus has since grown into fully equipped mobile eye clinics restoring sight across Indonesia.
