Utama Spice Utama Spice specializes in the development and manufacture of 100% natural beauty care products with

Welcome to Utama Spice, your number one choice for all natural Aromatherapy products! Our recipes have been developed using ancient Balinese medicinal knowledge to insure a product that does more than simply smell good and feel fantastic. We have spent over 2 decade studying ancient texts and developing formulas that change the way people think about and use personal care products. Our products have everything you need to help maintain young, youthful, healthy skin and nothing else. When you read the ingredients of our products you will notice that you do not need a PhD in Chemistry to understand what you are putting on, this is because we truly only use natural ingredients rather than naturally derived ingredients and other synthetics designed to cut manufacturing costs and create generic products that claim to be as good as the natural thing. Utama Spice is a Balinese based company with its roots deeply entrenched in Ancient Balinese Herbal medicine. Utama Spice was started in 1989 and incorporated in 2000 by Melanie Templer and Dayu Suci after they realized that the ancient Balinese medicinal herbal knowledge that has proven to provide both extremely powerful and effective medicines for the Balinese over the past hundreds of years is being pushed aside to make room for modern day medicines. This problem is further compounded by the fact that the medicinal herbs themselves are being lost as they are continually being replaced with cash crops, ornamental flowers, and villa development projects. With their focus on "giving people back their birth right" as Melanie and Dayu put it the duo set out to put an end to this self-perpetuating cycle by developing the best all natural products nature can provide. Shining a light on the magic and impotents of plants that has already been lost in so many parts of the world. To do this Melanie and Dayu make sure that every ingredient that goes into their recipes is of the highest of quality and maintain all of their healing properties. With the absence of binders, preservatives, and synthetics in Utama Spice products and through the use of high quality essential oils and other raw ingredients we are able to develop, produce, and supply our customers with an all-natural, highly effective, high quality product that is safe for the family. Philosophy:

We started as a micro family affair and have now grown to a small limited company employing around 20 people. We adhere to the famous Balinese cultural concept of TRI HITA KARANA, which commits us to respecting and working harmoniously with humanity, nature and the Divine. As a business, we have found a balance between generating an income from the herbs without damaging the environment in which they grow. We have done extensive research to support the local natural resource base and to enhance local farming skills in such areas as organic farming, bee farming and seaweed farming, it is these farming communities that produce the raw materials for our company's products. Production facilities:

At Utama Spice we take pride in developing and producing all natural beauty care products. To insure that we are successful with the development and production of our fantastic products we are continually making improvements to our production facilities, as well as insuring that we hire the right people for the job, including our own in house chemist who has a legal responsibility to insure that our facility, production methods, and production staff always maintain a slandered of excellence. The lower level of our factory where the manufacturing of our products takes place is a completely closed off sterile environment outfitted with stainless steal bench tops for easy cleaning, individual production spaces for each type of product to insure no cross contamination, and its own cleaning station to insure all the equipment used in the manufacturing process stays in a sterile environment. As we are still a relatively small production facility we are able to give our products the time and care needed for the creation of any fantastic product. To compliment our production facilities we have set up strict procedures for our production methods that insure the products and the raw materials for the products are checked at every stage of the process guaranteeing the highest quality. Our quality control procedures assign batch numbers to every ingredient used in our products giving us the ability to quickly trace, detect, and rectify any defect that might arise in the production process and make sure no other products have been affected. By maintaining these levels of quality the end result is a product so fresh and natural you will want to eat it, and why shouldn't you? At Utama Spice we know that your skin is your body’s biggest organ and should be treated as such. This is why when we make our products we think of it as making food for the skin rather then simply cosmetics. Our people:

As Utama Spice has grown throughout the years so has our need to employee more staff to help nurture and grow the development, with the majority of our staff being made up of young, local, independent women from the surrounding villages. Many of our employees have been with us from the beginning and have an excellent understanding of the product and of Balinese herbal techniques. With the majority of the staff being below the age of 30 Utama Spice plays host to an exciting and dynamic work environment encouraging comments, feedback, and ideas from all members of the staff no matter their position in the company or the qualification they hold. We have a very flat management structure with the leaders often standing side by side the other employees and getting involved, not only to insure things are getting done properly but also to insure they always understand the work place through the eyes of all employees and insure it maintains its friendly relaxed environment. Vision for the future:

Over the last decade Utama Spice has come along way from our humble beginnings and we are now planning the future for our next accomplishments. Over the next decade we envision:

· Build a environmentally friendly production facilities with a carbon neutral footprint.

· Become one of the leading authorities for the production and development of 100% natural body care products.

· Develop a wide distribution network across Indonesia, Asia and the rest of the world

· Continue to promote the use of natural body care products through various forms of media.

· Continue investing in the people and community around us.

Erni is thinking past the next harvest.

She is thinking about the next generation.
She says kukui is not high maintenance. No chemicals. No fuss. No expensive inputs.

Plant it back. Keep it going. Let it last for the kids and grandkids.

Erni’s work sits at the intersection of ecology and lineage.

She goes into the rainforest to find kukui, guided by knowledge her community has carried for generations.

This matters because preservation is cultural, not only environmental.

When communities are economically tied to standing forests, protection becomes practical and enduring.

What do you think creates real conservation, laws, money, or generational connection to land?

Forests get cleared when they are worth more dead than alive.

So the real solution is not just telling people to “protect nature.”
It is making the rainforest valuable while it is still standing.

Kukui is one example. A forest based crop that can help families pay for life and kids’ education without cutting everything down.
Do you think protection works without livelihood?

Hair acting wild. Fix it with one oil, not ten products.

Kukui Oil smooths frizz, boosts shine, and keeps ends from feeling like straw.

And the best part. When you back forest grown ingredients, you back the rainforest economy.

That means more reason to protect trees, not replace them.
Get Kukui Oil now. Better hair, better choices.

A gentle safety reminder. Essential oils should be diluted.

It helps prevent irritation, and it makes them much easier to use confidently.

This video walks you through a simple method, plus a quick patch test tip for sensitive skin.

If you are new to essential oils, save this one.
What are you using oils for most, sleep, stress, or skin care?

Yanto, head of Sekendal Village, says the floods are not a mystery.

One day of rain, and the village floods that same night.

Why. Forests have been cleared. Riverbanks have lost the trees that used to hold water back.

This is what happens when we treat nature like it is endless.
Do you think people take flooding seriously only when it hits their own home?

An open door, a closer look.

We invited media into our new factory to see how Utama Spice is built, from sourcing and formulation to the finishing details that make each product feel consistent and true.

Then we shifted from story to scent.
Everyone created their own blend for our unreleased reed diffuser, and the results were genuinely inspiring.

This is grassroots leadership.
Pak Janus, head of Dusun Samo, speaks about strengthening livelihoods through local commodity development, including kukui.

It is not theory. It is a practical goal.
Increase community income beyond day to day labor by building stronger, more reliable local production.

What do you think matters most for long term community impact, price stability, processing, or access to buyers?

We welcomed media into our new state of the art factory for a closer look at how Utama Spice is made.

From process to purpose, it was a chance to share the story behind the products, and the principles that guide every batch.

Thank you for taking the time to see it up close and ask thoughtful questions.

They are running Bali to Jakarta.
Not because it is inspiring. Because it is necessary.

One mission. Protect our rivers.
Plastic pollution is here, now, and it is on us.

Our March 28 and 29 soap sales helped remove 625kg of plastic.
This is your reminder. Do not stay passive.

The goal is not just profit. It is proof.
Proof that you can build a sustainable business, give back, empower communities, and still make money.

Then scale it. Make more impact. Inspire more people to do the same.
Because “it is not possible” is a lazy excuse.

What would you change if you believed impact and profit can coexist?
