✨ From a nurse-midwife in Ghana to a global health leader with deep roots in Asia, Professor Pascale Allotey has always carried one mission: advancing equity in health.

Her journey with TDR began with research on gender and infectious diseases, breaking new ground in how science could better reflect the realities of women and vulnerable communities. That passion carried her across continents, into classrooms, and onto global stages.

Through her leadership, she not only shaped policies on sexual and reproductive health but also built capacity across SEARO and WPRO, training the next generation of scientists to see health through a lens of justice and inclusion. 🌏

“Being an African woman in research at a time of growing awareness of the issues propelled me into spaces I would not have otherwise expected to reach,” she reflects — a reminder of how courage and vision can open doors for others to follow.

Today, as Director of WHO’s Department of Sexual and Reproductive Health, Prof. Allotey continues to turn research into real-world change, proving that science led with empathy has the power to transform lives.
