Walk With Me - Counselling & Psychotherapy

Walk With Me - Counselling & Psychotherapy My name is Ross Campbell and I am a pre-accredited counsellor and psychotherapist. I focus on you and what you can change. Yontef, G. (2007).

My name is Ross Campbell and I am a Pre Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with a BSc (Hons) in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I offer counselling and psychotherapy face to face, online or outdoors walk and talk therapy. I use an integrative eclectic approach, which is essentially elements of different therapy models, including Person Centred Therapy, Choice Theory/Reality Thera

py, Narrative Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Internal Family Systems, and Gestalt Therapy, with the aim of building a greater awareness of yourself as a whole rather than just your thoughts. I believe that understanding, and being aware of, your current thoughts and feelings then allows you the space to explore and imagine new ways of thinking and behaving that are more in line with your ideal self, the person you want to be if there was no fear of reactions or judgement from others. I would also use psychoeducation to continue the work outside the therapy room including a basic understanding of neuroscience and being aware of what is going on for you during those fight, flight and freeze moments and understanding it through a protective lens rather than an internal enemy. Yontef (2007) refers to this as the paradoxical theory of change which suggests that when people allow themselves to be fully aware with who they currently are, including their conflicts and shame, change and growth can then emerge as they come to trust in the therapist’s genuine respect for their life choices on a moment-by-moment basis. I have worked with clients that presented with the following issues: Anxiety Issues including Social and Separation Anxiety, Anger Issues, Depression, Stress, Obsessive Behaviour, Self Esteem / Self Worth / Insecurity, Suicidal Ideation / Family Members who died by Su***de, Intrusive Thoughts, Domestic / Emotional, Physical and Substance Abuse, Internal Family / Relationship issues, Loneliness / Isolation, Body Issues, Fears and Phobias, Trauma, Physical Health Conditions, Death, Loss and Grief, Existential Crisis including Loss of Meaning and Purpose of Life, Sexual Issues, Identity Issues, Trust Issues, Life Changing Diagnosis, Hoarding, Retirement, Bullying and Harassment and Postnatal Depression. The power of the immediate moment in Gestalt therapy. Journal of Contemporary Psychotherapy, 37(1), 17-23.

Morning Everyone, I took this picture while out on a lovely walk with family and friends in Howth. I felt it was a really powerful moment when I looked back. One man in the vast sea of ocean and rock. I can only imagine his reason for going outside and getting up on to a rock and somersaulting in to the sea but I know my reason for getting out hiking, out in the vast open. Its the presence, the company, the simple hello to a passer by, it takes you away from the ruminating, the worrying, the overthinking, the feeling of walls closing in, of darkness, of scrolling and scrolling one reel or short after another on the phone. Getting outdoors, in nature, even to the top of your garden with a cup of tea, it releases something, it lifts a weight, and gives a sense of freedom. This man didnt look lonely to me. I found a lovely quote that really resonated with me from a blog written by Aytekin Tank where he says "Loneliness is being alone — and not liking it. It’s a feeling. Solitude is being alone — and content. It’s a choice." This man looked like he was making a choice and content with being alone in this moment. This is my experience outdoors, walking, running or hiking, connecting with the world and the people around me, so why don't you try to get outdoors today and at the same time work through those feelings of loneliness, your current pain, struggles or obstacles in life by contacting me for an outdoor therapy session. Call or message me 085-7448257 or alternatively message me on this site. Dee Hub Ardeetown.ie

I took this picture a little over a week ago out enjoying a nice relaxing walk of a Sunday and I feel it really represents where I'm at with my therapy practice...change! The ebb and flow of my first year in business has been eye opening and my acceptance and resistance to change in myself and the world around me throughout this experience has been difficult at times but also so rewarding and soul filling doing this work and starting a business. The changing weather is a simple example, from a beautiful warm summers day to the feeling like I need to take the winter clothes back out again, how does that affect me, do I get frustrated that it is not warmer or accept the weather as it is on the day, it can be a good indication of where I am at, frustrated.... then I need to stop and take a look at what's going on for me because the weather has never been predictable or cooperative, and neither has life, so what do I do? I sit with it, I journal, I share it with others, I take a walk, go to therapy or supervision and I see what is really going on for me, how am I dealing with it and how I might deal with it better through creativity and curiosity. That is the work I do in therapy with my clients, I support my clients in building that awareness of the impact of change in their lives so that the frustrations don't get a chance to build and the achievements are recognised and appreciated! I also change my mind week to week on what I want to use my social media platforms for, I go from not wanting to use it, to I need to use it to be seen, to just using it for advertising or as something in support of the therapy work I do with my clients? The latter is where I am at this week so I wanted to share something I listened to, a great podcast episode on change from Eric Zimmers podcast "The One You Feed" with Najwa Zebian on "How to embrace change for an authentic life" and the line that stayed with me is that "change is the only constant", the struggle can be in resisting it, give it a listen and see what you take away from it. Well that was a great experience! After a few years of TA work I just finished my first official role as a tutor alongside Lecturer Jill Murphy and supporting TAs with IICP College. I have a vision of offering a therapy/counselling service alongside a 'learning from each other' educational approach that fits in to an eco system of support in local communities and I am certainly getting an excellent grounding on the educational front through IICP College. I always want to be as authentic as a I can as a person and I wanted to bring that in to my work as a therapist and through my role as a tutor. In this respect, I could not have a asked for a better role model than Jill who teaches in a very authentic way. It is informative, inclusive and relatable and encourages a curious exploration between the lecturer, students, TAs and Tutors. I want to thank Jill and the students of 231B1 for trusting in me to help with their education, allowing me to sit with them and be so vulnerable and open in their triads and overall just making me feel so welcome. I am looking forward to building on this and taking my learnings back in to my practice and future educational roles. IICP College Dee Hub

Wednesdays World of Wonder

I took this picture the other morning because it genuinely got me excited about the seasons to come, and along with the smell of fresh cut grass, these little sense perceptions really bring an energy and connection with the world around me in the spring and summer. These new shoots, new leaves, new life are also a reminder of what is possible in therapy. Every year the Autumn and Winter seasons bring a challenging environment and it can be helpful to remind ourselves of the impact of these seasons on our well being. It is also a chance to shed the old, conserve our energy and make way for the new. In therapy you get to look at all of this, what you can shed, what is weighing on you and what is in the way of you breaking through, growing, rejuvenating and finding new life within you. It can help you unearth a forgotten or newly discovered passion, drive or dream, or a need that has gone unfulfilled for too long. Nature can show us, that even with the challenges the world presents, personal growth and new beginnings are still possible.

I have slots available in outdoor, office and online therapy, to book a session you can contact me on 0857448257 or email me wwmcounselling@gmail.com.

So get out there and have a wonder-ful Wednesday. Dee Hub Ardeetown.ie

Wednesday Wisdom

Good Morning! The winter can be tough with its dark cold evenings but the mornings can be some of the most spectacular. I took this picture on the walk this morning and I feel it could be a good metaphor for the human experience. Spend too much time in the darkness and shade and it can make the walk more difficult but step out in to the light for a moment and it can feel refreshing and uplifting. Therapy allows you to explore both sides, the darkness and the light, and through your awareness of both, bring more balance to your life and understanding to your experience. This can open the space for hope and the potential for change.

We still have slots available so please message me privately to organise an appointment or alternatively call or message me on 085-7448257.
