Anne Coghlan is a fully qualified psychotherapist with an honours degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy. She is a member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and works in accordance with their code of ethics. Anne’s areas of expertise include working with individuals experiencing anxiety, stress, low-mood, low self-esteem, loneliness, grief/loss, relationship difficulties, infertility and family issues. She also has extensive experience working with those who have been affected by a diagnosis of ASD within the family. In accordance with her core training, Anne’s approach to working with clients is primarily ‘client-centred’ in nature. This is a non-directive approach to counselling, whereby the therapist, as part of building a trusting and empathetic relationship, helps to create the necessary conditions to allow clients access their own path to recovery and personal growth. With this in mind, Anne’s focus is to provide a safe space for each client, where they can explore their thoughts and feelings in a non-judgemental and compassionate environment.

Panic attacks really are terrifying. Because they are often not provoked by any real danger they can make us feel totally out of control and convinced we are going to die. It is important to realise that panic attacks are not life threatening and that they will pass. Here is a really useful exercise to manage a panic attack or as a way to control anxiety. These leaflets are available throughout the McCabes Pharmacy chain and can also be downloaded on our website here: https://counsellingandtherapy.com/anxiety/

One for all the parents of children struggling with anxiety. It is so tempting as parents to try to overcome anxiety by removing all the stressors that trigger it. Instead, we need to try to support our children to function as well as they can, even when they’re anxious. Every time they are brave and push through the anxiety they are building confidence in the world and strengthening the connections that support this brave behaviour.
