Dry needling - is there anything to be afraid of?
Dry needling is an effective method of treating pain and dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system. It involves the application of thin needles without any substances (which is why it is called "dry needling").
In terms of acupuncture, which comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine and uses the principle of meridians and energy flow, dry needling is based on the napping of the so-called trigger points, which often cause pain both within a specific area or the larger area of the body.
This method carries very little risk, and combined with other forms of therapy, it works especially in:
• chronic spinal pain
• muscle soreness of various origins
• tendinopathy/tendinitis (e.g. tennis/golfer elbow)
•scar tissue therapy
•head aches

The therapist performing the procedure is specially trained in various needling techniques. He selects the appropriate size and thickness of the needle, depending on the anatomical structure of the body ,as well as the dysfunction. When inserting the needle, there may be a slight muscle pain, twitch or temporary contraction. These are completely normal effects resulting from the puncture of the needle in the trigger point.
