***Willow Community Counselling Community Centre Open Day***

Willow Community Counselling Centre Open Day, a place dedicated to supporting individuals and families through some of life’s most challenging moments. The event will take place on Thursday, 21st November 2024, from 3:30pm – 5:00pm, at The Manse, Woodstock Street, Athy, Co. Kildare R14 PY58.
At our centre, in line with our vision, we offer free services to those in need, including:
• Addiction Counselling: Support for individuals and their families before, during, and after treatment.
• Mental Health Counselling: Helping those struggling with mental well-being find a path to healing.
• C.R.A.F.T. – Support for families with a loved one in addiction.
• Holistic Services: Yoga and reflexology sessions to promote emotional and physical well-being.
• Auricular Acupuncture: Helps to relieve stress, anxiety, cravings and improves sleep.
These services are available at no cost to the public, and while we appreciate donations from those in a position to give, our main focus is ensuring that everyone has access to the help they need, regardless of their financial circumstances.
This Open Day is more than just an opportunity to tour our facilities and learn about our services. It’s a chance for us to reach out to the broader community, including potential private or public investors, to help us continue—and hopefully expand—the critical services we provide.
With additional funding, we aim to increase our capacity, offering more counselling sessions, adding more holistic health services, and reaching even more families and individuals who need our support.

We would be delighted if you could join us and help us spread the word about our mission. Together, we can build a stronger, healthier community.
Please RSVP by 19th November 2024 by contacting Teresa on 085 1011210 or emailing willowcpgroup@outlook.com

As a student of intercultural theology and interreligious studies the crossroads where religion, philosophy, politics, culture, traditions (and everything in between) meet, has always been a source of constant curiosity for me. Growing upin a culture steeped in Roman Catholicism my expanding appetite for spiritual knowledge was never sated by a rhetoric that rarely went beyond – ‘it says so in the bible!’ Of course, as soon as the ink dried on my passport my curiosity with spiritual knowledge extended about as far as - where is the cheapest pub and how can I find it! 😂

This curiosity was ignited again when I went to my first yoga class. My first teacher, was practising a form of Raja Yoga at the time, called Sahaj Marg; an interpretation of Patanjali’s yoga sutras. Although written roughly 3,000 years ago, these yoga sutras existed well before that as an oral tradition. Colloquially known today as the eight-limb yoga path. The physical practice or asana is only one limb of the eight limp path, all of which are of equal importance and must be practised together to reach meditative consciousness. This is THE TRADITION of Ashtanga yoga.

Ashtanga Yoga THE STYLE was developed by Pattabhi Jois, an India Yoga Guru. He popularized this flowing style of yoga as exercise, referred to today as ashtanga yoga or vinyasa yoga. Jois posits that asana must be practised first and foremost, as he considers it the most important limb. A huge departure from what some argue was the original philosophy of Patanjali’s Yoga sutras.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of dispute surrounding Pattabhi Jois's teachings, his legacy, and the many schools of ‘power yoga’ that evolved from his yoga students.

But change is always changing and it is worth remembering that there remains few yoga lineages, theistic & non-theistic traditions, or contemplative paths which exist today without controversy, including my own!

So why is Rachel hitting us with all this knowledge you might ask?

Fair question!

"We are all so desperate to be understood but we forget to be understanding" - Beau Taplin.

When we realize 💡 that everyone has a struggle that we know nothing about, it becomes easier to empathize 🤗 with every person we meet in our community.

"All addictions are an attempt to solve a problem and that problem is emotional pain" ♥️

Only when we start to address the emotional pain, can we then begin to fix addictive behaviour.

Today is World Mental Health Day 🌎

We are in the midst of a global crisis that is widening inequalities of health 🏥, and economic 👛 and social circumstances.

The impact of this inequality is seen in the increased demand 📈 for mental health services. Willow experienced an increase of more than 50% in the first eight months of 2021.

That is why we are asking everyone reading to be be mindful 💭 of the mental health of those around you and take time out for self-care 🧘🏻‍♂️ every day.
