Cadets: aged from 10 – 16 years old. Ambulance Corps: or senior members who range in age from 16 – 60+. Both these groups are extremely active all year round. Our Cadets meet on Friday's from 7- 8:30pm where they learn first aid, communications, basic nursing skills and fun & games. They also attend events within the region and nationally throughout the year. Locally you will see the unit providing Emergency Ambulance and First Aid cover at local Football, Rugby, Boxing, Corporate events and many more, We also do Community Care duties which we call CARE (Care and Respect for the Elderly) where we bring guests from the locality to 11am mass in St Muredachs Cathedral each Sunday. The unit is also very active within the region helping out our neighboring units with training and or personnel to help with duties. Some of our members are currently on Papal Duty in Rome representing Ireland.

Another glorious day in for the teams with an early start at The Papal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls where the team passed through The Holy Door during the Jubilee year before getting to work with the Cuban team!

Tomorrow will involve some afternoon shifts at the first aid and medical posts, so no doubt more sights will be enjoyed in Rome and the tomorrow! Well done to all involved.

In Loving Memory of Marian Browne Our Beloved ‘Mammy B’

It is with broken hearts and deep sorrow that we share the passing of Marian Browne, cherished mother to Adjt Peter Browne and Seamus, and affectionately known to us all as ‘Mammy B’.

Marian was one of Ballina’s finest, a beacon of kindness, generosity and unwavering community spirit. Her life was a testament to service and her legacy is woven into the very fabric of our town. From her tireless work with the Ballina Stephenites to her joyful dedication to the Ballina Salmon Festival, Marian gave her time, her heart, and her laughter to every cause she touched.

Here in the Ballina unit, Marian never hesitated when the call for help went out. She always the first to arrive and the last to leave. Her gentle presence enriched our CARE programme many times over the years, and she was a steadfast companion on our pilgrimages to Knock and Lourdes, bringing joy, laughter and compassion to all who journeyed with her.

Mammy B’s legacy is one of love in action. She showed us what it means to serve with humility, to care without condition, and to build community through kindness. Her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her spirit will live on in every act of service, every shared memory, and every heart she touched.

Rest peacefully, Marian. You were truly one of a kind, and we will all miss you dearly.
