Oftentimes neck pain is located in one spot and goes away on its own within a few days or weeks. But in some cases the pain becomes constant or radiates into other body parts, such as the shoulder and arms.

The pain can radiate along a nerve from the neck into the shoulders and arms. The intensity can vary and this nerve pain might feel like it’s burning or searing. It can also give a "pins and needles" type sensation.

Sometimes an irritation in the neck can also affect muscles and nerves connected to the head. This could be a tension headache, such as from neck muscles tightening; or occipital neuralgia, where a pinched occipital nerve in the neck causes pain to radiate up into the head’s sides and scalp.

Foam rolling, also known as myofascial release, is the application of pressure to eliminate scar-tissue and soft-tissue adhesion by freeing up tightness in your muscles.

The goal of foam rolling is to stretch and loosen the fascia so that it and other structures can move more freely.

This results in decreased muscle and joint pain, increased circulation and improved mobility and balance for peak performance.

Check out http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/rehabilitation-exercises/foam-roller-exercises for video guides on different Foam Rolling techniques.

Gradual Onset Lower Back Pain
Mild or moderate low back pain can be from a chronic or long term back problem or can follow a bout of acute low back pain. It may be difficult to diagnose a specific cause of long term low back pain as a number of structures can cause or contribute to the pain.

Acute Lower Back Pain
Acute low back pain is a severely painful back pain which usually comes on suddenly from a movement such as bending over or twisting. It often results from a chronic or long term back injury which flares up worse from time to time.

Massage can help relieve Lower Back Pain and is available from €20 with AOC Injury Clinic.

A Little Bit About Me

In 2005 I qualified as a gym instructor and personal trainer with the NTC (National Training Centre). I then added to this with a qualification in SAQ (Speed, Agility, Quickness) Training.

In 2011 I qualified as a Sports Injury Therapist after completing a 2 year full time course in Colasite Stiofan Naofa, Cork. During this course I worked with the college soccer team as Sports Injury Therapist and First Aider.

It was also during this course I set up AOC Injury Clinic. Shortly after qualifying from Colaiste Stiofan Naofa I began working out of Dennehy's Health and Fitness in Ballincollig.

Over the past 7 years I have worked with people from all walks of life. From those just starting training for the first time, to professional athletes.

I have worked with athletes from soccer, GAA, rugby, MMA, athletics, basketball, bodybuilding, powerlifting as well as individuals who needed treatment due to being sedentary at work and are fixed in the one position for hours every day.

If you're suffering from an injury that just won't go away, or you would like that edge for your training or an upcoming event, don't hesitate to get in contact with AOC Injury Clinic.
