Bio

Mary Kara. In 1980 I qualified as a mental health nurse and in the following 30+ years I worked in acute, residential and community settings in both mental health and care of the elderly. I graduated from UCD in 1999 with a BNS degree. In 2010 I was forced to give up my nursing career through ill health. A number of major surgeries and a near death experience made me realize and appreciate how important the present is. I was searching for something but didn’t really know what. My answer came a few weeks later while watch TV! As I watched Sr. Stan from the Sanctuary discuss her experience of Mindfulness and how she had brought it to Ireland some 30 years before. I was intrigued! And so began my Mindfulness journey. I travelled to the Sanctuary in Dublin one day a week for 8 weeks and completed my own MBSR course. It was a wonderful experience and really changed me as a person the more I practiced. I am so passionate about this subject that I began a 15 month Diploma in Mindfulness and Positive Psychology in 2017 with the Irish Mindfulness Academy. This 15 month course coupled with my own practice and life experiences, enables me to skilfully impart the concepts of Mindfulness, Positive psychology and CBT.

I have added Reflexology and Reikki to my holistic practice, enabling me to give my clients a head to toe holistic package.

I bring over 30 years of experience in group and individual facilitation to you through Donegal Mindfulness. I offer courses to individuals, organisations, health services, community groups and service providers in areas of training, health and education. My own formal and informal practice is ongoing and I am still learning. My duty of care to all course participants assures total respect and confidentiality at all times. Donegal Mindfulness is fully registered and insured.
