It’s natural to want to fix our pain, but true self-compassion asks us to pause, acknowledge, and be present with our suffering. When we stop resisting and start embracing, we open the door to healing in a deeper, more authentic way.
Next time you're hurting, ask yourself:
- Can I accept that this hurts?
- Can I be there for myself in this moment of pain?

So often our good intentions to be present and mindful are nudged aside by the busyness of our life.

Whether it is a busy day at work, a series of household chores, family commitments (or perhaps all three!), we can soon find ourselves looking helplessly at the clock and thinking “is that the time already?!?” whilst ploughing on with our day without ever breaking stride.

Our desire to meet our responsibilities is a laudable one, but if we don't include our own rest and recuperation in those responsibilities, then we will soon find that we are exhausted. This quote is a little reminder to stop and “unplug” from the doing mode of mind to just be.

If you are looking for a short mindful break in your day then check out our YouTube channel that has a wealth of mini-meditations to help you take some much needed rest.

When we go out in nature to take a walk, or sit quietly in our home as the noise of the day turns around us, we realize that there is a symphony going on in every moment — a symphony which we are an integral part of. When we move quickly throughout our day moving from one thing to the next, one thought to the next, without paying the attention of presence, we can get lost in the noise. But when we take the time to quiet down and listen, we can make sense of this life and we will know what to do. 🧘‍♀️

When a particular part carrying an old wound is triggered, it tends to take us over so we can't see outside of the worldview of that part.

When we relate to a triggered part from a place of compassion, we become dis-identified with the part and can make wiser choices.

Hold yourself gently

Mindhaven (founded by Susan O’Regan) trains people in the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion. Susan has spent over twenty years working as a community and youth worker and training and facilitating groups. She firmly believes in people’s capacity to create meaningful change in their lives and in their communities.

Being naturally contemplative and reflective, Susan discovered mindfulness for herself almost a decade ago, at a time when stress had become a huge factor in her own life.

Being introduced to mindfulness had a big impact on her personally and for years Susan participated on various weekend retreats in both Ireland and the UK. She found herself drawn towards compassion based mindfulness and so in 2015, embarked on a three year Msc (Studies in Mindfulness) run by Aberdeen University in conjunction with the Mindfulness Association.

She found a natural synergy between mindfulness, compassion, community work and adult education. Since graduating, she has been utilising these tools with the wide range of diverse groups that she regularly works with.
