Here at Anam Cara, we recognise that supporting parents after bereavement means supporting the whole family. Siblings are sometimes called ‘the forgotten mourners,’ as the specifics of this grief can sometimes be lost to the world. Children of all ages, even grown children, will sometimes try to protect their parents or other family members from their grief, adding additional complexity to their loss.

February is Raynaud's Awareness Month. Raynaud's Disease or Raynaud's Phenomenon affects the extremities, usually the fingers and toes, but can also impact the ears, nose, chin, or cheeks in rare cases.

There are two types of Raynaud's. It can either be:
-Primary Raynaud's: when the condition develops by itself (this is the most common type).
-Secondary Raynaud's: when it develops in association with another health condition.

For those living with Raynaud's, the small blood vessels in the fingers and toes are more sensitive than usual to cold temperatures. This sensitivity causes the blood vessels to spasm, narrowing them still further much, allowing much less blood to flow through them.

Oesophageal cancer is cancer of the food pipe, and develops when cells in the oesophagus change and grow in an abnormal way.

February is Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month, a dedicated time to raise awareness about the risks and symptoms of oesophageal cancer – one of the most challenging cancers to detect early.

My kid just texted me "🐞".

It's code for "I want to come home, but I want it to be your fault." One random emoji that means "Get me out of here." I call, I show up, I make an excuse. I get to be the "bad guy." They get to leave safely—without being a "tattletale", without losing face with friends, without pressure. Every kid deserves that kind of safety net. Parents: pick your family's emoji.
