Stuart Haxell, 20, has had significant vision loss since birth. While he did well in school, he found that he needed help in getting out and around by himself. He started working with Irish Guide Dogs as a teenager, completing the Next Step Programme before entering third level education and decided to train with Guide Dog Elmo, a Golden Retriever cross last year.
The difference, he says, has been enormous. “With Elmo’s help I can go to college independently", he explains. He now studies business in Sligo Institute of Technology and is looking forward to embarking on an exciting business career with Elmo as his guide. He is pictured here graduating from class last summer.
