It’s nearly time!

This week is a great time to start easing children back into routine ahead of the return to school over the coming weeks.

Introducing a bed time routine and good sleep hygiene will help children to get back into the swing of early nights and early starts. Try to avoid screens in the hours leading up to bed time and maybe read a story instead to help them to wind down.

Making sure children are getting exercise during the day can help them to sleep better at night and help them to manage any stress or anxiety they may have about going back to school.

Open conversations with children about the return to routine can help to tackle any fears they may be facing!

Met Éireann are predicting warm conditions across the country over the next week.

While it’s great news that we are finally getting some heat on our bones, it’s important to look after ourselves and more vulnerable members of our community over the coming days.

Some tips to stay well during the warmer weather:

📌 Stay well hydrated
📌 Check in on older adults
📌 Exercise during cooler times of the day
📌 Listen to your body and rest when needed
📌 Keep babies and young children out of the sun during the hottest times of the day and make sure they are getting enough fluids.

Today is set to the the hottest day of the year.

Please make sure children and older, more vulnerable people are not out in the sun at the hottest times of the day and keep hydrated.

For anyone taking part in sporting events over the weekend, hydrate well and know your limits.

Stay safe and enjoy!

Anyone can get heatstroke but children, the elderly and people with long-term health conditions are more at risk. Heatstroke needs to be treated as an emergency.
