Our May Altar is now beautifully set up at the nursing home, honoring Our Lady during this special month dedicated to her. Residents and staff came together to arrange flowers, offer prayers, and reflect in peace. It's a lovely reminder of faith, community, and devotion.

Margaret and several residents dedicated their time over the past weeks and months to a heartwarming cause: knitting cozy scarves for Cork Penny Dinners. Their goal was to provide warmth and comfort to those in need as winter approaches. Margaret later traveled to Cork to personally donate the scarves, which were greatly appreciated by the Cork Penny Dinners.

In addition to the scarves, Margaret, along with several staff and residents, recently made homemade blackberry jam. Margaret picked the berries from outside, and together they transformed them into delicious jams. These jams were raffled off to five lucky staff members. Additionally, Margaret and some residents prepared tasty treats to share with fellow residents and staff, fostering a sense of community and warmth.

Bantry Fair Day Trip!
Apologies for late post

Our residents enjoyed an amazing day out at the Bantry Market! It was our first trip outside since COVID, and everyone had a blast. The town was buzzing with people and cars, as locals and visitors strolled around the square, exploring street markets filled with food, clothes, household items, and more.

Our residents had a wonderful time catching up with old friends, soaking up the sun, and breathing in the fresh air. We even bumped into some of our staff who joined us for a few minutes of fun.

A huge thank you to Local Link for providing tramsportation and ensuring our residents travelled comfortably. A special shout to O Keeffe's Supervalu Bantry for hosting us in their cafe with delightful tea, coffee, and baked scones.

We also want to express our gratitude to our dedicated staff and families who made this trip possible. Special mentions to Dermot, Cheyanne, Maureen, Anat, John, Ronniel, Carol and Mariam.

Overall, the trip was a great success, and our residents can’t wait for another one!

Over the past few months, much happened in our nursing home.

The residents took an interest in several art projects, such as the Daffodil Project, Wild Duck Project, Small Flower Project, and the Mosaic Box.

They celebrated Daffodil Day by colouring daffodils. Daffodil Day is the Irish Cancer Society's biggest fundraising event, and this art project showed our support. The Wild Duck Project was another coloring activity where the residents showcased their skills, making it fun and enjoyable.

The Small Flower Project was a collaboration with our TY students, who visited every Thursday to spend time with the residents. The flowers they created are now displayed on our wall, highlighting the hard work of both residents and students.

Maureen and Dennis spent an afternoon decorating a plain storage box with a beautiful mosaic design. This project was fun and engaging, allowing them to express their artistic talents and transform an ordinary object into a stunning piece of art.

Election Day also took place in our home, with our residents casting their votes. Our nurse, Mags, assisted them in making their choices correctly.

Lastly, we celebrated one of our residents' 86th birthday. We extended our warmest birthday wishes to Catherine Downey, who happily celebrated this milestone surrounded by her loving family and friends. It was a privilege to witness and be part of this special day, honoring Catherine's life, vibrant spirit, and countless memories

Lamb Visit and Petting Day! 🐑

Our nurse Margaret brought one of her adorable lambs to our nursing home. The residents affectionately named the lamb “Paddy”, this name has now become official.

The residents had a wonderful time petting and feeding Paddy with his milk in the dayroom. For those unable to join in the dayroom, our dedicated staff ensured that Paddy made personal visits to each resident’s room.

Paddy loved all the attention and the treats he received. It was a delightful day for everyone, filled with joy and warm moments.

Several staff members and residents dedicated their time over the course of weeks and months to a heartwarming cause, diligently knitting cozy scarves for Cork Penny Dinners, aiming to provide warmth and comfort to those in need. Upon completing numerous scarves, residents and staff were rewarded with a delightful afternoon tea party, completed by an array of delectable cakes.

Margaret and the residents had deligently prepared homemade treats earlier in the day, including delightful traditional coconut buns and Rice Krispie cakes, all made with care and tailored to residents’ preferences. (for those who want to recreate the traditional coconut buns, we are delighted to share the recipe below!)

As the afternoon unfolded joyfully amidst laugh and friendship, as residents and staff alike savoured the sweet rewards of their collective efforts. Such moments, shared with friends and family, are the essence of life’s finest pleasures.
