Your spine is your mid structure and your inner support system. In yoga, we don’t just stretch our backs…..we awaken this
vertebral column. We look to create space between each vertebrae and nourish the nervous system that runs through it. We move energy up and down this sacred channel (sushumna nadi) with conscious awareness. The spine is designed to move in six ways:
✨ Forward folds (flexion)
✨ Backbends (extension)
✨ Side bends (lateral flexion)
✨ Twists (rotation)
✨ Lengthening (axial extension)
✨ Neck Twisting (axial rotation)
When we explore all these movements we build strength, structure and support. A healthy spine isn’t about forcing flexibility — it’s about balanced support, strong core, steady breathing and importantly mindful alignment for posture. Your spine holds you every single day like a perfect mobile scaffold. 🌿 Over 60s Gentle Movement Class – Free 30-Minute Session 🌿
Join me for a 30-minute, free-of-charge exercise class (on-going) designed especially for adults over 60 who want to keep moving safely and comfortably every Thursday morning at 9.30am.
This gentle session focuses on:
✨ Passive stretching to ease stiffness and improve flexibility
✨ Subtle strengthening to support joints and maintain muscle tone
✨ Balance and posture awareness to promote confidence in everyday movement
We will be using resistance bands and light hand weights to provide safe, controlled support for strengthening without strain. All movements are low-impact, slow-paced, and adaptable to suit different abilities. We will be moving down and up from a floor position….just keep that in mind before booking!
This class is ideal for anyone looking to:
• Improve mobility and joint comfort
• Maintain independence and functional strength
• Move in a relaxed, supportive environment
No prior experience needed. Just wear comfortable clothing and bring water.

I know I revisit the corner-stones of yoga by times, well very often, but it’s never in vein….The breath is the quiet guide of every yoga practice.

Before the stretch.
Before the strength.
Before the balance.

In our practice we always try to move with the breath, not around it. Each inhalation creates space…length is created in the spine, expansion through the ribs, openness through the heart. Each exhalation invites release, softening of tension, grounding the body, clearing the mind. The breath is more than oxygen, it’s the life force that offers present awareness. If we rush through poses without noticing our breathe the practice becomes soley physical exercise. But when we anchor our movement to steady, intentional breathing, something shifts…..the nervous system calms, the mind steadies. The body feels supported rather than forced. And the beauty of the practice is…..your breath is always available — on the mat and off. We’re in the Goods Store on Friday morning to find the gift of the breath 🙏🏻 10am and €10 pay as you go….everyone welcome! Namaste 🕉️💜🧘‍♀️

It’s pivotal 😉 that we use the synovial joint of the hip and keep its moving parts oiled and active….so to speak. The range of motion includes rotation and multi-directional movement external (lateral) rotationand internal (medial) rotation (backward, forward, side-to-side abduction and adduction ….because it’s designed primarily for stability and weight-bearing it’s prone to degenerative conditions and injury. I think this is why I love the practice of yoga (Pilates covers some of the ranges but not all) so much, it pays so much attention to this weight-bearing section of the body. And further interest personally is my wee mammy has both her hip’s replaced. So for a lot of us we use this intersection of the body minimally ie sitting, standing and walking and the occasional kicking of the ball or husband out of your way 🤪 But and this is the crux IF we don’t use this joint’s capacity and full range of movement regularly we loose it, unfortunately. So definitely…join a regular yoga class near you to experience and appreciate this very important part of your anatomy! Love a good hip opening workout meself! 😉🤔🤣 Happy Saturday folks!

🕉️🕉️ See I think 🤔……..Yoga is more than just a workout—it’s a practice of connection on many levels. Through movement with intention, steady breath, and focused awareness, yoga strengthens & stretches the entire body while calming the mind. It teaches balance not just in asanas, but in our everyday activities…..effort and ease, strength and flexibility, discipline and compassion. Whether your practice involves a quickie or full hour (😉), yoga offers a simple reminder to slow down, tune in to YOU and away from the external bla bla and move with flow and grace! As I age dis-Grace-fully 😉 I feel my practices Breath-work, Yoga, Pilates, Grounding and some extra curricular activities 🥂💃🕺🏻have provided a sense and semblance of balance. It’s safe to say that although my mental state might be described as unique 🤪 my circle of people (everyone whom I share my time with) help me stay grounded 🤔🤭 It’s important to have like minded souls or at least none judgmental people in your life, to which I’m truly truly grateful 🩷. So with that said I am, as always excited to complete my week with our beautiful yoga practice tomorrow morning at 10am in the Goods Store, Belturbet. Cost is €10 pay as you go. See you there! 💟🕉️🧘‍♀️

Astrologically we are planted in Aquarius until feb 18th. This is an inventive air sign which values freedom, progressiveness and independence. On a personal level Aquarius brings us empathy and self expression amongst other things. With these celestials energies/values afloat we will endeavour to embody in our yoga practice in the morning. Hopefully the bodies are starting to feel a little more revitalised as the weeks proceed Christmas. Thankfully muscle memory plays a role….some what 😉 Yoga by its nature not only strengthens and stretches the body, it shifts stagnant vitality or energy that by times becomes stuck. If this lodged energy isn’t shifted it can create, dare I say, dis-ease and disharmony. Never fear Yoga is here…our Friday morning practice starts as always with the breath….a very good place to start! 😉 Looking forward to our end of week gathering in the Goods Store at 10am, €10 pay as you go! 🕉️💟🧘‍♀️
