Contrology - Not only is the body rejuvenated, but the mental and spiritual refreshment is beyond calculation' Ruth St.Denis Modern Dance Pioneer
Today, on International Women’s Day 2026, I want to celebrate a woman whose quiet strength helped shape the Pilates method we practise today - Clara Palacios Pilates. 🌸
As a woman, it feels important to honour the women whose contributions were often less visible, yet deeply influential. Clara was not only the wife of Joseph Pilates, she was an extraordinary teacher in her own right.
In the original New York studio, Clara worked closely with clients and dancers, guiding them with warmth, intuition, and a remarkable understanding of the body. While Joseph was known for the structure and precision of the method, Clara brought a deep sensitivity to the work. She could see where the body held tension and gently guide it back toward balance and ease. ✨
Many dancers came to the studio to recover from injury and restore their strength. Among those who recognised the power of the work was modern dance pioneer Ruth St. Denis, who famously said:
“This is the work that will save dance.” 💫
Clara’s legacy lives on not only in the Pilates method itself, but in the spirit of attentive teaching, compassion, and respect for the body’s intelligence.
Today, I celebrate Clara Palacios - a woman whose influence continues to ripple through generations of teachers and clients around the world. 🤍
