IT band syndrome, is discomfort on the outer side of the knee due to irritation of the iliotibial (IT) band, a thick tendon running from the hip to the knee. Repetitive knee bending, especially in runners or cyclists, causes friction between the IT band and the knee bone, leading to inflammation and pain. Symptoms often include sharp pain on the outer knee, worsening with activity.
