I used to say it's all about the "purple snack bar and cuppa tea", anyone who has come to my baby massage Baby and Beyond with Bridget will laugh at this, but Baby Massage is so much more.
The benefits are huge- relaxation, helping to aid baby digestive problems like colic, constipation, bonding, relaxation, to name but a few.
Fabulous to see the baby professionals absolutely recommending and promoting the benefits of Baby Massage.
My next block starts next Tuesday the 4th November at 10am, currently there are 2 spaces left. DM me to book, or for any more info.

Anyone who attends Baby Massage or a private antenatal class with me, knows I love podcasts and especially this one The Baby Tribe, it's Irish and it's so informative in a way that doesn't lay blame or cause guilt.
It was actually an antenatal client of mine that told me about it, and since then I'm hooked. Anyone that tells a new Mum to read a book, doesn't know what it's like to be a Mum, run a house and keep all the balls in the air!!! but we can listen to something as we walk/ breastfeed / batch cook or drive.
The Baby Tribe is not just for parents of babies, I'm loving this episode, geared at parents of toddlers. Let's face it tantrums are part of toddlerhood.
Sometimes being a nurse and midwife is not about having all the answers, because I def don't!!! it's about signposting new parents to places that will hopefully help them.
Enjoy that walk,

***September is the new January***
Getting all prepared for our next block of classes, starting this coming Tuesday the 16th September at 10am. How fabulous is my new sign, hand painted with love by my beautiful daughter Grace. I love the pink, blue and neutral tones.
Hoping for a healthy, happy and fun new term as I met new Mums and their beautiful babies and we learn together.

****The Forgotten Hospital Bag Items, that are so useful****

The packing of the hospital bag is an exciting event. It's very hard to prepare for the unknown!!!! You will find lists of hospital bag items everywhere.
21 years as a Midwife, here are my 6 useful items that are often forgotten, and why they should be packed...

1. A SHOWER CAP, who wants to wash their hair in hospital. Absolutely wash your wounds, if you have any, and please dry them well, (infection loves moisture), but do you want to get out of the shower, ready to feed your baby with wet hair? Wash your hair before you go in, tie it up and have a lovely hair wash shower when you get home.

2. A SECOND PAIR OF SLIPPERS, one pair nearly always falls victim to waters, blood or are simply too big for your beautiful feet postnatally. Birthing is a glamorous business,###x

3. A LONG PHONE CHARGER CABLE, some sockets are high up, or in an awkward position and after birthing a baby, keeping things easy is really important.

4. EAR PLUGS, obviously these can't be used postnatally as you want to hear your baby, but they are so beneficial if you are admitted before your baby is born, called antenatally. If it's the night before an induction, or a planned section delivery, or even for observation, sleep is so important.

5. A NOTEBOOK AND PEN, I know I'm old fashioned, but you can learn so much from the experienced Mammies on the postnatal ward, and also from the midwives talking to other Mums. Also, writing down length, timing amount of baby's feeds ( breast or bottle), in the first few days, can really help. You think now you will remember, but as a Mammy trust me....write it all down!!!.

6. PLASTIC BAGS, so handy for sending dirty clothes home with your partner or family members. Some babies will keep a vest and grown clean all day, some babies will need a clean outfit after every feed. For day 1 we are all unique.

I really hope this helps,
Remember packing the hospital bag to have a baby is so special....how many times will we do it in our life?
Love...

A thermometer is a boring baby shower gift, it won't sparkle, it won't sing, but when your baby is sick in the middle of the night. You'll be so glad your friend chose it as their gift for you.
A thermometer you can trust is everything. You are going to make decisions about your baby based on it's reading....
Do they need medicine?
Do they need to see a Doctor?
I trust Braun, esp the ear thermometer, I have used them in every hospital I've worked in and as a Mammy, I have one in my own house.
You need to Know the Numbers...
For babies anything up to 37.5 C is good, I call it the green light.
37.5-38 C is an amber light keep a close eye, and if you feel your baby is unwell get them seen by a Doctor.
For a baby, 38 C or above needs review by a Doctor.
I spotted these thermometers on sale at the moment in Buncrana.
