Did you ever go to an event where they asked for a volunteer from the audience to come up on stage? You might have pooed your pants, yet wanted it to be you at the same time.

Some people feel like that about going to the gym.

This post is to celebrate all our wonderful members who “stepped on stage” for themselves. And it’s for those who recommend their friends and family do the same. BMS is an energetic and enthusiastic community built by its members. A wise man told us “your vibe attracts your tribe”. We love our tribe.

How many times have you achieved a goal and immediately felt a disappointment? This is the arrival fallacy.

We believe in Chasing Better. Doing things that challenge you - that in a funny way make you feel fulfilled. These are stepping stones to a greater goal. And that then leads to an even greater goal. The outcome is the destination, but not the focus.

Look at the picture of our 6am run crew. Every one of them set the alarm for before 5am to be down the track for a 6am session. In January! The sense of achievement from that will stay with them all day. Why is this good? Because they showed up for themselves and each other today and multiple days every week. So they feel fulfilled daily and it compounds by doing that consistently. There lies the success. This is true happiness - not anxious about the future and too busy working to ruminate on the past.

It’s time to talk from the heart. There is too much AI and bu****it out there and it’s time to tell a real story before we have all lost the attention span to read it.

We have worked like two maniacs since 2018 to bring change to peoples lives. It wasn’t about fu***ng money. It wasn’t about popularity. It was about doing something that made a difference in this world.
We changed our own lives by taking better care of ourselves. We wanted that for others. So we walked the walk and studied as PTs, Nutrition coaches, Strength and conditioning coaches, Cardiac rehab.. and the list goes on.

For 3 years one of us would fly to Australia every month so the gym could survive. Then we spent 9 months apart due to Covid. One in Australia and the other in Ireland. We never forgot the members who stuck with us online during that time. You guys helped keep BMS alive.

Many things changed since then. We have continually improved our service. We took on more full time staff. We took on more floor space. We became Ireland’s first Hyrox Gym.

Our community is the most important thing to us. To help everyday people achieve health and fitness goals they never thought possible. Why? Because we once felt like s**t and let others influence our decisions. That is why our tagline is “Be Your Own Hero”.

Last year, the BMS Killybegs gym took every ounce of energy we had. Why did we bother? Not because of fu***ng money. Because life might have been different for a young man of 14 who started to smoke and drink - if he had a gym instead. And now everyone in that area has somewhere to come and hang out, to train, to be happy. So it has been worth it.

So this is part of our story for anyone who is new to BMS. It’s important to us that we don’t get pigeon-holed as just another gym. We exist to make a difference.
