Existential Depression is not Depression
If you are a Soul Deep Woman (or Man), a Highly Creative and Gifted Woman, an Empath, a Sensitive Soul… a Nurturer… a Visionary… A woman committed to live true to who you and share your gifts with the world, then… in case you feel that you are not living on purpose, you might be experiencing EXISTENTIAL DEPRESSION.
Now, Existential Depression is not Clinical Depression. You are not mentally ill. If fact, you are a person of integrity aspiring to live in accordance to your highest values and principles.
You want to change the world with your truth. You have convictions and you have strong beliefs. You are committed to be of service to the world.
In truth, you are a Soul Deep Human who sees the world as it is. You are honest and sincere with yourself and realize that you are not able to make much of a difference in changing the world we live in. Internal or external challenges get in the way of living out loud and impacting the world in a way that brings meaning to your life.
“Because brighter people are able to envision the possibilities of how things might be, they tend to be idealists. However, they are simultaneously able to see that the world falls short of their ideals.
Unfortunately, these visionaries also recognize that their ability to make changes in the world is very limited. Because they are intense, these gifted individuals… keenly feel the disappointment and frustration that occurs when their ideals are not reached. They notice duplicity, pretense, arbitrariness, insincerities, and absurdities in society and in the behaviors of those around them. They may question or challenge traditions, particularly those that seem meaningless or unfair.”
-Quote from Davidson Institute
To go a step further, many of us in the Transformational Sphere are committed to sharing our message with the world. If for any reason, be it internal or external, we are not able to fulfill the role we chose for ourselves in the Universal Puzzle, then our highly sensitive critical mind will tell us that we are not living up to our commitment.
And this is where Existential Depression or Anxiety flows in. When we are Meaning Seekers and we don’t do the things that bring meaning to our lives, we will feel the thorns of Existential Depression.
But this is not clinical depression. This is not a reason to take medication. This is not a reason to accept a labels imposed by a medical field that refuses to accept the difference between clinical depression and existential depression.
And honestly, considering the major issues we are faced with at a personal and collective level, who wouldn’t feel the pain of an existential crisis?
Just like Maya Angelo said, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you”.
Yes, living with your untold story inside of you causes existential depression. Not living our truth causes existential depression. But this is not mental illness. Your feelings and emotions are not to be pathologized. These feelings are to be explored, understood, listened to. They feelings require a call-to-action to bring to fruition our Soul's Calling. This is Sacred Calling.
“Are you a trailblazer?
If you see and feel what most others don’t.
If you have high expectation of yourself and others.
If ideas and interpersonal conflicts keep you up at night.
If you are passionate about upholding fairness and justice.
If you are immensely curious and get obsessed with what you love.
If you can’t stand hypocrisy and have to speak the truth, even others don’t like it.
If you are strong-willed, have an independent mind, crave autonomy and freedom.
If you can’t bare arbitrary instructions, routine activities and explanations that make no sense.
If you are bothered by the gap between what could be and what is- both in yourself, others and the wider world.
You might be a trailblazer; and for years you have wondered why despite your capacity for deep joy and connection, you also struggle with an inferiority complex, self-doubt, chronic guilt, bouts of anxiety, and sometimes existential despair.”
~Quote by Imi Lo- Psychology Today
Yes! Here we are. Finally, I have the scientific proof that majority of people are the victim of Existential Depression, not clinical depression, especially if you are creative, sensitive and committed to make the world a better place with your gifts and talents.
Dear Soul Deep Woman, you are not mentally ill. You are not to be medicated. Using the right language for how we feel, we can now create prescriptions for the soul.
First, take a moment in take in this truth. You are not mentally ill. You are whole just as you are.
You are a deep thinker and you hurt inside to see the world hurting.
And you want to be of help. You want to change the world with your own mastery. This is potent Soul Work. This is potent Soul Making.
You went on a Heroine’s Journey and you learned what the world needs to heal the deep wounds of humanity.
And the only way to lift the pain of Existential Depression and Anxiety is to become the person you have decided to be in order to make the world a better with your soul work. The only way to heal Existential Depression is to live true to who you are meant to be.
Stay with this truth today. How you feel is a sign of an evolved soul. A soul committed to truth. Your truth. Not mental illness. But a deep calling from your Soul to live meaningfully through your gifts and talents.
Let’s Make Soul and shed the pain of Existential Depression.
Let's dig deep and be the Change Makers that we are meant to be.
And then Existential Depression will be replaced by an Inner Joy that flows from knowing we Make our Soul as we Heal the Wounds of the World.
Sense of peace and serenity knowing that we are living true to who we are meant to be and our Soul Calling and Purpose in this lifetime.
Because we are all born called. The journey is to remember who we are and discover our Soul Calling... and then, make it manifest in the world. The pain of not living on purpose often becomes the Existential Depression I mentioned in my reflection.
But, please... never allow to be labeled as mentally ill. Because you are not. You are just a seeker remembering who you truly are....................................................................
